For this craft project, I actually dipped into my craft stash and found a gift tag-shaped door hanger that I bought over Christmastime and did not use.
Don’t worry if you don’t have one of these lying around. I’m pretty sure they use this same cutout and just use different paper on the cover depending on the season. I actually see these year-round at the Dollar Tree. Chances are you’ll be able to find one to work for this craft.
Dollar Store twine carrots are so much fun to craft with!
Dollar Tree twine carrots have been a fan-favorite and spring crafting staple for a few years now, and it’s not hard to see why.
These cute little carrots can be suited to any decor or crafting style. The orange twine adds a pop of color that can be highlighted with other brightly-colored accents. Or, the orange can be downplayed with more black, white, and neutral accents for a more rustic or farmhouse style.
I’m no stranger to crafting with these foam and twine carrots. Here are a few other crafts I’ve made with them:

Tutorial: How to make a Dollar Store Carrot Burlap Bag Door Hanger
Watch this quick video tutorial below, and then follow the step-by-step tutorial below:
- Watch the video above before you begin, and let that be your visual guide for this craft.
- Paint the back of the tag door hanger and the wood square. Use a dry brush technique, and paint back-and-forth in the same direction. Don’t aim for complete coverage, instead opt for a weathered or distressed look. Let the paint dry.
- Make the fabric pouch. First, fold the drop cloth around the tag door hanger, making a pouch. Hot glue the fabric on the back of the door hanger to secure.
- Then, layer the burlap over the drop cloth fabric, again securing in the back with hot glue. TIP: a silicone fingertip protector comes in very handy when hot gluing burlap.
- Decorate the fabric pouch. Use transfer tape to add the black vinyl “bunny bait” letters to the wood square. Alternatively, use black paint or wooden letters to add your desired words.
- Lay the wooden half balls in place (evenly spaced) along the top and bottom edge of the wood square. Secure them in place by adding a dab of wood glue to the back with a small paint brush. Set in place and let the wood glue dry.
- Hot glue the wood square to the front of the burlap pocket.
- Fill the burlap pocket. Add a half bag of reindeer moss. Then, add the carrots at varying angles and heights. Add a bit more moss between the carrots.
- Run a length of ribbon or twine through the hole at the top of the door hanger, and secure with a knot. Tie a simple bow with the black and white ribbon, cutting the tail ends at a 45-degree angle. Secure the bow to the top of the door hanger with hot glue.
How cute is my finished Spring Carrot Wall Hanger?
