Why I love this craft
I’ve used TONS of pizza pans in past craft projects and that’s one of my favorite things about this craft. In addition to the embellishments, there are only two primary materials – a pizza pan and placemat. It’s super easy to make and inexpensive to make.

What’s my favorite paint for a basecoat?
If you’ve seen any number of my craft videos, then you’ll notice that I always use white Rustoleum chalk paint as my basecoat. I have found this to be the most universal basecoat paint, no matter what material you’re crafting with.
I opted in for a quart and it has lasted me quite some time!
The inspiration for this craft:
As I mentioned before, I’ve made A LOT of pizza pan crafts, so it’s hard to pick just one as an inspiration for this craft. One that is similar to this craft is this Our Nest is Best pizza pan door hanger.

Pizza Pan Placemat Door Hanger
Grab a pizza pan and placemat from Dollar Tree and learn how to turn them into a Pizza Pan Placemat Door Hanger in just a few easy steps!
Materials
- plastic placemat (Dollar Tree)
- pizza pan (Dollar Tree)
- white Rustoleum chalk paint
- Waverly chalk paint (color: navy)
- scrap piece of craft paper
- Sharpie marker
- tacky glue (or E6000)
- faux greenery and floral embellishments
- twine
Tools
- 1" flat paint brush
- scissors
- hot glue gun and glue sticks
Instructions
- Watch the video. Follow along with the video tutorial for a step-by-step walkthrough on how to make your own placemat door hanger.
- Paint the pizza pan. Paint the rim of the pizza pan with a basecoat of white Rustoleum chalk paint. Let it dry completely.
- Add colored paint. Once the basecoat has dried, apply a coat of Waverly chalk paint in the color navy. Two coats may be necessary for full coverage.
- Make a template. Use a scrap piece of craft paper and a Sharpie to trace around the pizza pan. Cut it out.
- Trace and cut out placemat. Place the template on top of the placemat, trace, and cut out the mat.
- Attach the placemat to the pizza pan. I recommend using E6000 or tacky glue to apply the placemat to the pizza pan. Hot glue may melt the plastic.
- Create a twine braid. Secure 6 pieces of twine with a piece of tape and make a braid (2 pieces each). (Watch the video to see how I did this.)
- Attach the braid. Secure the braid around the border of the cut out placemat with hot glue.
- Make and attach a hanger. Repeat the braid step and attach the braided hanger to the top of the pizza pan.
- Embellish the door hanger. Use a variety of faux greenery and flowers to embellish the bottom of the hanger. Add a twine bow.
