What’s my favorite paint for a basecoat?
If you’ve seen any number of my craft videos, then you’ll notice that I always use white Rustoleum chalk paint as my basecoat. I have found this to be the most universal basecoat paint, no matter what material you’re crafting with.
I opted in for a quart and it has lasted me quite some time!
The inspiration for this craft:
As I mentioned before, I’ve made A LOT of pizza pan crafts, so it’s hard to pick just one as an inspiration for this craft. One that is similar to this craft is my Christmas Door Hanger.

Spring Decoupage Pizza Pan Door Hanger
Grab a pizza pan from Dollar Tree and learn how to turn it into a Spring Decoupage Pizza Pan Door Hanger in just a few easy steps!
Materials
- pizza pan (Dollar Tree)
- garden flags (Dollar Tree)
- half wood beads
- E6000 glue
- white rustoleum chalk paint
- matte mod podge
- Sharpie
- parchment paper
- Waverly chalk paint (color: yellow)
- vine ribbon
Instructions
- Watch the tutorial video. Follow along with the tutorial video for a step-by-step walkthrough on how to make your own spring decoupage pizza pan door hanger.
- Dry fit half wood beads. Once you've dry fit the beads, attach them to the pizza pan with a dab of E6000 glue.
- Paint the pizza pan. Apply a base coat of white rustoleum chalk paint to the entire pizza pan. Let it dry completely.
- Add a coat of mod podge. Use a 1" flat paint brush to apply a generous coat of mod podge to the open area of the pizza pan. Let it dry completely.
- Prep the flag. Apply a coat of mod podge in a circular area of where you plan to cut the flag and let it dry. (This will keep it from fraying when cut.)
- Trace and cut flag. Place the flag onto the bag of the pizza pan and use a Sharpie to trace a circle onto the flag. Cut it out.
- Use the heat press method. Use a mini heat press to attach the flag to the pizza pan.
- Add color. Add a color of your choice around the border of the pizza pan. Use a smaller fine point paint brush to fill in the area outside the flag.
- Embellish the door hanger. Add a vine ribbon around the border of the seam of the flag. (Watch the video to see how I did this.)
- Add a hanger. Add a jute rope hanger wrapped with vine ribbon. Secure it to the back of the door hanger with hot glue.
