Why I love this craft
Door hangers are something I make quite often. They are great decor pieces to easily change out for any holiday, season, or occasion. This particular one combined a pizza pan, Christmas-inspired calendar image, and just a few other supplies that I already had on hand.
How to keep paper from bubbling when using mod podge.
If you’ve tried to decoupage paper (especially calendar paper) to anything using mod podge, then you’ve probably experienced the paper bubbling or being anything but smooth.
I’ve found the answer to that and it involves using the heat press method. All you have to do is apply a coat of mod podge to the surface and let it dry completely. Then, apply the image by laying a piece of parchment paper over it and applying heat via a mini heat press or iron without the steam setting.
The heat will reactivate the mod podge and create a glue-like substance that will adhere to the image and the surface.

Pizza Pan Christmas Door Hanger
Grab a pizza pan from the Dollar Store and get ready to make a super cute Pizza Pan Christmas Door Hanger.
Materials
- pizza pan (Dollar Tree)
- half wood beads
- E6000 glue
- Waverly chalk paint (color: crimson red)
- Christmas image (from a calendar)
- matte mod podge
- red buffalo check ribbon
- small red ribbon
- medium sized ribbon
Tools
- 1" paint brush
- scissors
- mini heat press
Instructions
- Watch the video. Follow along with the video tutorial for a step-by-step walkthrough on how to make your own pizza pan Christmas door hanger.
- Attach wood beads. Use a dab of E6000 glue and attach half wood beads around the border of the pizza pan.
- Add a basecoat. Once you've glued the half balls onto the pan, give everything a quick coat with white spray primer. Let it dry completely.
- Paint the border. Paint the rim of the pizza pan with red chalk paint. Let it dry completely.
- Add mod podge. After the red paint has dried, add a coat of matte mod podge just on the inside of the pizza pan.
- Prepare image. Using a Christmas-themed calendar, find the picture you like, trace it (using the pizza pan), and cut it out. (Watch the video to see how I did this.)
- Apply image. Using a sheet of parchment paper and a mini heat press, attach the image to the inside of the pizza pan.
- Embellish the door hanger. Make a simple bow (watch how I do this using the bunny ears method).
- Make a hanger. Braid three strands of ribbon together to create the hanger. Attach it to the back of the pizza pan using hot glue. Secure the bow over the hole of the decoupaged image.
