THIS MINI MOSS BUNNY TOPIARY IS SO EASY TO MAKE.

There’s something about craft projects that use nature-like supplies. In the case of this bunny topiary, we’re going to be using green moss, which will result in a finished product that looks like it came straight from outside.

I’ve crafted with moss before when making a DIY moss photo mat. It’s relatively easy to work with because you can manipulate it however you need to. Quite a bit comes in one bag and when pulled apart, you’ll have a lot to work with.

WHY I LOVE THIS PROJECT

Because this craft uses mini terra-cotta pots (2″), it’s easy to make several to decorate more than one space – or one large area – in your room. I see them as the perfect decor for placing down the center of a dining room table or setting one or two on an end table in the living room.

Also, if you have a local crafting group, this would be the perfect project to make together.

  • Floral foam

  • Exacto knife

TUTORIAL: HOW TO MAKE A BUNNY TOPIARY

Follow this quick step-by-step tutorial below:

  1. To create the bunny’s head, start with the 08″ styrofoam ball. Use the exacto knife and carefully create two small grooves for where the ears (wooden craft sticks) will go.
  2. Break off both ends of a wooden craft stick, about half an inch. Then, hot glue them into the grooves created in the previous step.
cut ends off craft stick and add to foam ball
  3. Working with the 1.5″ ball, poke the floral wire through the bottom, up through the top, and carefully through the bottom of the 0.8” ball (without puncturing through the top) to create the body.
  4. Use hot glue as a reinforcement to connect the “body” to the “head”. Then, cut off about 4” of wire for the bottom to use as the stand.
assemble bunny form and cover in moss
  5. Using hot glue, begin to completely cover the bunny in moss (working in small sections*).
  6. Next, cut the floral foam to fit inside the planters pot. Insert the moss bunny on the wire. Hot glue moss onto of the floral foam to cover completely.
  7. Add a small, dainty ribbon or twine around the neck to give the bunny a pop of color and character. Add the bunny into the clay pot and add moss.
add bunny to clay pot and add moss

* TIP: To have the moss ready to work with, remove it from the bag and pull it apart on a plate before starting the project.

Isn’t this craft project easy? Not to mention, it turns out so cute. This may be something you’d like to do with your kids. Just be sure to have the styrofoam balls prepped in the event they are too young to use an exact knife.
