The inspiration for this craft:
I’ve made TONS of snowman crafts, so it’s hard to just pick one as an inspiration for this particular craft. I think what’s inspiring the most is the ability to create so many different types of snowmen using a variety of Dollar Tree supplies.

DIY Mini Snowman Tray
Learn how to make a Dollar Tree snowman tray craft with wood stain, paint, and vinyl lettering — a quick and cozy winter DIY!
Materials
- Mini wood tray (Dollar Tree, craft section)
- Dollar Tree snowman ornaments (two)
- Americana Gel Stain in Oak (or any preferred color)
- Acrylic paint – white, black, and orange
- Heat transfer vinyl (HTV) – white or another color of your choice
- Cricut machine or cutting tool (for vinyl phrase “Let it Snow”)
- Parchment paper (for pressing HTV)
- Craft glue or hot glue
Tools
- Paint brushes (small and fine-point)
- Cricut EasyPress Mini or household iron
- Scissors or craft knife
Instructions
- Watch the video. Follow along with the video tutorial for a walkthrough on how to make your own mini snowman tray.
- Stain the Mini Tray. Start by staining your mini wood tray. Use a paintbrush to apply Americana Gel Stain in oak or your favorite shade. Cover all surfaces — top, bottom, and sides — so the tray looks finished from every angle.

- Paint the Snowmen. Grab those cute little Dollar Tree snowman ornaments. Using white acrylic paint, coat the snowman bodies evenly, painting around the edges too. Then paint the top hats black and let them dry.
Next, use a fine-point brush and black paint to add charcoal eyes and half-smiles, since the snowmen are facing each other in profile. Finish with tiny orange carrot noses using the same fine brush.
- Add Vinyl Lettering. Cut the phrase “Let it Snow” on your Cricut using heat transfer vinyl (HTV). Position it on the center of your tray.

- Assemble the Tray. Once everything is dry and your vinyl is in place, glue down the two snowmen inside the tray so they face each other. Hold in place until secure.

- Style and Display. This mini snowman tray looks adorable on a tiered tray, bookshelf, or kitchen shelf. It’s the perfect accent piece for Christmas and transitions beautifully into January décor.
For extra flair, try wrapping the tray handles in red-and-white baker’s twine or adding painted snowflake details around the edges.
