How to make a DIY dollar store faux tin tile and burner cover snowman.

Why I love this craft

Anytime I can use inexpensive supplies and things I have on hand to create festive decor, I’m all over it. For this craft, the only things I needed to purchase were the burner covers and faux tin tile pieces, which can be found at Dollar Tree for $1.25.

Everything else I used (paint, glue, a paint stick, and wooden cube) were supplies I had leftover from previous crafts. If you’re looking for a way to use up some of your leftover craft supply stash, this project will help you do it.

Is it easy to craft with faux tin tile pieces?

Short answer, yes! This particular product was created as a self-adhesive wall tile and comes in a 12″x12″ size, which gives you plenty of material to work with. It’s also thin and ordinary scissors can easily cut through it.

I like crafting with these tile pieces because there’s so much you can do with them and typically a few can go a long way.

The inspiration for this craft:

I made another Dollar Store Faux Tin Tile Snowman Craft using similar craft supplies, but with a slightly different finish. This one used a dollar store Valentine’s gumball machine cutout, and then flipped upside down to make a snowman’s face with top hat.

If you’re going for a snowman theme this winter, this is definitely a craft to try.

Total Time: 1 hour
Difficulty: easy

This Burner Cover Snowman is a unique craft that uses just a few Dollar Tree supplies and only takes a few minutes to make.

Materials

  • burner covers (2-pack from Dollar Tree)
  • faux tin tile piece (Dollar Tree)
  • white chalk paint
  • E6000 glue
  • hot glue
  • paint stick
  • wooden cube
  • white spray paint
  • black and orange chalk paint
  • sprigs of pine
  • black and red check ribbon
  • pine and twine

Tools

  • black Sharpie marker
  • scissors
  • small sponge piece
  • fine point paint brush

Instructions

  1. Watch the video tutorial. Follow along with the video for a step-by-step walkthrough for making your own burner cover snowman.
  2. Prepare the faux tile piece. Paint the tile piece with white chalk paint. trim tin tile piece to fit inside burner cover
  3. Trace the burner cover. Turn the tile piece face down and use a black Sharpie to trace the cover. Cut inside the black marker for the perfect fit. Do this for both burner covers.
  4. Attach the faux tin tile piece. Use a combination of E6000 and dabs of hot glue to secure the tile piece into the burner covers.
  5. Attach the "head" to the "body." To do this, I use a paint stick and wooden cube to create a "stand". First, attach the wooden cube to the bottom of the big burner cover with a combo of E6000 and hot glue. Then attach the paint stick the backs of the both covers with the same glue combination. Then cover everything with white spray paint (no need to do the front). glue paint stick to back of stacked burner covers
  6. Finish the snowman. Add black paint along the rims of the burner covers. Use a pencil to draw on the face and buttons for the body. Use a fine paint brush and paint the eyes, mouth, and body buttons black. Use orange paint to paint on the carrot nose.
  7. Embellish. For the arms, I used sprigs of pine attached with hot glue. Use the black and red check ribbon to create a scarf. Watch the video to see how I attached the ribbon. Create a pine bow tie to complete the snowman look.
