DIY Embroidery Hoop Snowman

Create a farmhouse-style embroidery hoop and lace doily snowman for a fun craft on cold winter days.

Do you want to build a snowman? And this one won’t even melt! Let’s make a cute snowman craft that will last all winter long… and for winters to come years after.

Supplies to make this winter craft:

  • Wooden Embroidery Hoops – 4” and 6” in diameter
  • Cotton Lace Doilies – 6” and 8” in diameter*
  • Buttons – Orange (3) and Black (5)
  • Ribbon – Black and White check (1” wide)
  • Scissors
  • Fabric Glue
  • Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
  • Twine
  • Floral Wire

* TIP: This craft was made with cotton lace doilies from the craft store, but any type of lace would work. A section of lace yardage, a vintage lace tablecloth, or even a piece of lace clothing can be substituted. If you don’t like lace, feel free to use a scrap of fabric in a pattern and color of your choosing.

Tutorial: How to Make an Embroidery Hoop Snowman

  1. Loosen the metal screw at the top of each embroidery hoop. Separate the inner and outer rings.
  2. Lay each lacy doily over the inner ring – the 6-inch doily over the 4-inch inner hoop, and the 8-inch doily over the 6-inch inner ring. Fit the doily-covered inner rings loosely into the outer rings. 
  3. Pull gently on the doily from the back to ensure the lace is taught. Then tighten the screw at the top of each hoop.
  4. Use scissors to trim the excess lace from the back of the embroidery hoop. Apply a thin line of fabric glue to the cut edge of the lace. This will secure the lace to the embroidery hoop and prevent fraying.  Set aside to dry. trim the lace doily and secure with fabric glue
  5. Use hot glue to attach two small black buttons for the eyes, three small orange buttons for the carrot nose, and three medium black buttons on the snowman’s body.
  6. Attach hoops together at the screws with a glue gun and glue sticks. To further secure, wrap the intersection with floral wire.
  7. Wrap the snowman’s neck in a black and white gingham ribbon scarf. To finish, secure the ribbon with a few small dots of glue. secure the hoops with wire and add a ribbon scarf

This quick and easy Lace Snowman Embroidery Hoop craft goes together in just about 30 minutes with limited supplies. Fun to give as a gift or keep for yourself.

Lace Embroidery Hoop Snowman
