Supplies to make this winter craft:
- Wooden Embroidery Hoops – 4” and 6” in diameter
- Cotton Lace Doilies – 6” and 8” in diameter*
- Buttons – Orange (3) and Black (5)
- Ribbon – Black and White check (1” wide)
- Scissors
- Fabric Glue
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
- Twine
- Floral Wire
* TIP: This craft was made with cotton lace doilies from the craft store, but any type of lace would work. A section of lace yardage, a vintage lace tablecloth, or even a piece of lace clothing can be substituted. If you don’t like lace, feel free to use a scrap of fabric in a pattern and color of your choosing.
Tutorial: How to Make an Embroidery Hoop Snowman
- Loosen the metal screw at the top of each embroidery hoop. Separate the inner and outer rings.
- Lay each lacy doily over the inner ring – the 6-inch doily over the 4-inch inner hoop, and the 8-inch doily over the 6-inch inner ring. Fit the doily-covered inner rings loosely into the outer rings.
- Pull gently on the doily from the back to ensure the lace is taught. Then tighten the screw at the top of each hoop.
- Use scissors to trim the excess lace from the back of the embroidery hoop. Apply a thin line of fabric glue to the cut edge of the lace. This will secure the lace to the embroidery hoop and prevent fraying. Set aside to dry.
- Use hot glue to attach two small black buttons for the eyes, three small orange buttons for the carrot nose, and three medium black buttons on the snowman’s body.
- Attach hoops together at the screws with a glue gun and glue sticks. To further secure, wrap the intersection with floral wire.
- Wrap the snowman’s neck in a black and white gingham ribbon scarf. To finish, secure the ribbon with a few small dots of glue.
This quick and easy Lace Snowman Embroidery Hoop craft goes together in just about 30 minutes with limited supplies. Fun to give as a gift or keep for yourself.
