This DIY snowman door hanger craft is perfect for decorating your front door or kitchen this winter. And who would guess that it’s made from painted metal mixing bowls?
Grab a few metal mixing bowls and whip up this cute snowman front door decoration
I have wanted to make a snowman door hanger for quite a while now. I just wasn’t sure about how, exactly, I wanted to make it. I’ve seen crafters make snowmen by stacking wreath forms, but I wanted to do something a bit different.
Well… I think this craft definitely fits the bill. It is different!
I found my inspiration in the most unlikely of places: the kitchen aisle of Dollar Tree. I stumbled across this set of three mixing bowls, and I immediately knew what I wanted to make with them.
P.S. You know I LOVE crafting with dollar store kitchen items. Don’t miss this Christmas Cutting Board Craft.
Now, don’t worry if you can’t find metal mixing bowls at your dollar store. Really, any set of metal bowls will do. Check out the thrift store or a local yard sale. You could even adapt this as a kids craft by using paper bowls.

- Screw and rubber mallet
- White chalk paint

Mixing Bowl Snowman Door Hanger
This DIY snowman door hanger craft is perfect for decorating your front door or kitchen this winter. And who would guess that it's made from painted metal mixing bowls?
Materials
- 3 metal mixing bowls - small, medium, and large
- Screw and rubber mallet
- White chalk paint
- Black and orange acrylic craft paint
- Paint brushes - wide and fine point
- Floral wire and wire cutters
- Miscellaneous decorating supplies - jute rope, ribbon, faux greenery, wood bark, hot glue
Instructions
- Start by poking holes into the bowls - so that they can be strung together later using floral wire. Use a screw (or other sharp object) and tap it *carefully* with the rubber mallet until a hole is formed in the rim of the bowl. Poke 2 holes (spaced about 1-inch apart) in either end of the small and medium bowls. Poke 2 holes (spaced about 1-inch apart) on only one end of the large bowl.
- Paint the outside of the three bowls with white chalk paint. This will take two coats. Allow the paint to dry 1-2 hours between coats.
- Use black paint and a fine point brush to paint the rim of the bowls. This does not need to be painted in a straight line, since you want the bowls to look like rustic enamel.
- Once all paint has dried, string the three bowls together with floral wire. Run a length of the floral wire through both holes in two of the bowls. Twist to secure in the back.
- String a length of floral wire through the top of the smallest bowl as well - this will make the snowman easier to hang.
- Decorate your snowman with hat, scarf, and arms. Use whatever supplies you like. Here is what I used: Hat (bark, jute rope, and faux greenery attached with hot glue), scarf (ribbon tied in a simple knot), arms (jute rope and faux greenery attached with hot glue).
- Use black and orange paint to add eyes, mouth, carrot, and buttons. Let dry before hanging.
- String ribbon through the wire loop in the top of the smallest bowl. Cut to length needed to hang.
