Materials

  • 4” unfinished wood round ornaments (ordered in bulk from Amazon)

  • FolkArt Matte Acrylic Paint – Cardinal Red
  • White acrylic craft paint
  • Twine with metallic thread (or plain twine)
  • Small faux greenery sprigs
  • Thin Christmas ribbon

Tools

  • Sharpie (for tracing)
  • Craft scissors
  • 1" flat paint brush
  • Small dish sponge (cut into a piece)
  • Pen blade or craft knife
  • Painter’s tape
  • Hot glue gun (fine tip)
  • Hot glue sticks

Instructions

    1. Watch the video. Follow along with the video for a walkthrough on how to make your own ornaments.
    2. Cut Out the Faux Tile. Peel off the adhesive backing from your faux tin tile. It’s only stuck around the edges, so it’ll fall off once you start cutting anyway. Trace the shape of your 4" wood round onto the back of the tile using a Sharpie. Carefully cut just inside the line with craft scissors so your tin piece fits nicely on top of the wood round. Test fit, trim if needed. trace ornament and cut out tin tile piece
    3. Paint the Tin Tile. Using a 1" flat brush, paint the surface of your cut-out tin tile with a generous coat of Cardinal Red FolkArt matte paint. Use a stippling motion to get into the grooves and ridges. One coat is usually enough—letting some silver peek through adds charm! Also paint the edges and one flat surface of the wood round. paint the tile pieces red
    4. Recreate the Ornament Hole. Use a pen blade, craft knife, or even a hole punch to recreate the hole at the top of the ornament so you can hang it later.
    5. Add White Distressing. Cut a small piece of a clean dish sponge. Dab it in white acrylic paint, then pounce off the excess. Lightly brush over the raised parts of the tin tile to highlight the details. Use light pressure to avoid painting the whole background.
    6. Attach the Tile to the Wood Round. Once your paint is dry, hot glue the faux tile piece to the front of your wooden round. Be sure to align the holes at the top!
    7. Add Twine Hanger. Cut a 12” piece of twine and fold it in half. Wrap painter’s tape around the ends and cut at an angle—this keeps it from fraying. Thread it through the ornament hole and tie a simple square knot.
    8. Make & Add the Bow. Create a tiny figure-eight bow using skinny ribbon. Wrap a small piece of ribbon around the center and glue it at the back to secure. Cut the tails at a 45° angle for a polished look.
    9. Add Greenery & Final Touches. Hot glue a small faux greenery sprig near the top of your ornament. Glue your bow on top of the greenery stem to finish it off.

    10. Repeat the process to make more ornaments in different colors or styles!
