Why I love this craft
There’s something so satisfying about turning everyday “trash” into festive treasure, and that’s exactly why I’m obsessed with these upcycled jar lid ornaments. Not only do they give a second life to something I’d normally toss, but they’re also so glam and customizable!
A little spray paint, a snowflake cutout, and some velvet ribbon and suddenly you’ve got something giftable and gorgeous. I love that this project doesn’t require a ton of supplies or skill, just a little patience and a whole lot of creativity.

Crafting with Jar Lids
Jar lids might just be one of the most underrated craft supplies out there and once you start using them, you’ll totally get the hype. Whether they’re from pasta jars, mason jars, or even baby food containers, these little round gems are perfect for turning trash into treasure.
I love how they add that rustic, repurposed feel to any project, especially around the holidays! They’re sturdy, easy to paint or cover with paper, and just the right size for ornaments, mini photo frames, or cute farmhouse-style magnets.
The inspiration for this craft:
I’ve crafted with jars a lot, but not necessarily just the lid part alone. My inspiration for this craft was to use another portion of the jar to create holiday decor that’s both fun and memorable.

Jar Lid Christmas Ornaments
If you're looking for a fun, festive, and budget-friendly DIY project, look no further! In this craft, we're taking something most of us already have lying around—jar lids from things like pickles and olives—and turning them into glam holiday ornaments.
Materials
- Jar lids (from small jars like olives or pickles)
- White spray primer
- Gold spray paint (I used Rust-Oleum Metallic Gold)
- Wooden snowflake cutouts (found mine at Hobby Lobby)
- Black chalk paint
- Parchment paper
- E6000 glue
- Black velvet ribbon
- Hot glue
Tools
- Fine point paint brush
- Hot glue gun
- Scissors
Instructions
- Watch video. Follow along with the video tutorial for a step by step walkthrough on how to make your own jar lid Christmas ornaments.
- Prime and paint lids. Take your jar lids outside and give them a full-coverage coat of white spray primer. Once dry, follow up with two coats of metallic gold spray paint.

- Paint the snowflakes. While the lids are drying, grab your wooden snowflake cutouts and paint them with black chalk paint. Lay them on parchment paper to prevent sticking. Paint the front and back first. Then use a fine point brush to catch the unfinished edges.

- Assemble the ornaments. Attach each snowflake to the underside (formerly the inside) of your jar lid with a dab of E6000 glue.

- Add the hanger. Start by hot gluing one 7-inch tail to the inside edge of the lid, wrap the ribbon all the way around the rim, and glue down the other tail. You’ll have two loose ends now. Tie a knot at the base near the lid and another near the ends, creating a loop for hanging.
