Why I love this craft
Back in the summer, I made a plastic serving tray picture frame, much like the one for this particular Christmas craft project. I loved how it turned out and it provided a nice learning curve.
I knew I had to make one for the holiday season, and will most likely give it a few more tries for spring and Easter.
What is the best tray to use?
For the summer-themed one, I used a solid plastic serving tray from Dollar Tree. This time around, I used a silver tray that had a pattern on it. This provided an extra touch without me having to use another method of my own. You can use whatever you like; however, to get the exact look as mine, you’ll want to go with the silver tray from Dollar Tree.
The inspiration for this craft:
My biggest inspiration for this craft was the gift bag. If you’ve followed me for any amount of time, then you know I enjoy making different craft projects using serving trays (or making my own).
Using a gift bag was a big unique and took the guesswork out of what to use as the picture.

- Spray paint the tray. Cover the entire tray with black spray primer.
- Paint the serving tray. Apply a generous coat of red paint onto the spray painted area. Let dry, and apply a second coat.
- Apply photo. Tape the gift bag directly onto the tray.
- Embellish. Attach just cord around the gift bag edge of the photo using hot glue.
This is really cute. I think just a bit or gold glitter on the frame would add to the C’mas vibe. 😎
