Why I love this craft
Creating a holiday centerpiece doesn’t get much easier than this. Really, you’re just painting a plastic bowl.
I also love this craft project because it’s super versatile. When you’re ready to make the switch to another season, it’s as easy as adding season-related embellishments or swap out the filler entirely!
What’s the best way to paint the bowl?
I used using spray primer followed by rub and buff. I know going outside to spray paint is not always an option, especially if you live in a colder climate. You could also do a base coat of black chalk paint instead.

Materials
- plastic decorative bowl (Dollar Tree)
- Rustoleum black spray primer (or black chalk paint)
- antique gold rub and buff
- battery operated lights
- sprig of faux pine
Tools
- paint brush
Instructions
- Watch tutorial. Follow along with the video for a step-by-step walkthrough on how to create your own cut crystal plastic bowl decor.
- Prep the bowl. Start by spraying the bowl with a coat of black spray primer. Once you spray the outside, let it dry. Then, flip it over and spray the inside. Be sure to get good coverage.
- Add gold color. Using a dry paint brush, go over the outside of the bowl with antique rub and buff. You don't need full coverage for this. Also add a bit to the inside. (Watch the video to see how I did this.)
- Add embellishments. Add battery operated lights inside the bowl followed by a sprig of faux pine cut into pieces and strategically placed according to your liking. This centerpiece can easily be adjusted for different seasons.
