Why I love this craft
I’m always looking for ways to blend memory-making with holiday decorating, and this DIY picture frame tree collar checks all the boxes. It’s sentimental, simple, and seriously budget-friendly – all right up my alley!
I love how it makes space for those cherished Santa snapshots while also adding a polished finish to the base of your tree. Bonus: It’s super easy to swap out the photos each year!
Crafting with Dollar Tree frames.
Dollar Tree frames are one of my favorite versatile supplies. They’re inexpensive, lightweight, and easy to dress up or down depending on your project. For this tree collar, they make the perfect gallery-style wrap around the tree base.
Whether you’re framing scrapbook paper, old holiday cards, or printed Santa photos, the possibilities are endless. With a little paint or paper, you can turn them into high-impact, custom holiday decor.
The inspiration for this craft:
This project came from wanting a tree collar that didn’t just hide the base of the tree, but told a story too. I’ve always loved using photos in holiday decor, like in my DIY Vacation Photo Ornaments.

- Double-sided tape
- Foam mounting tape or heavy-duty double-sided tape
Tools

Instructions
- Watch video. Follow the tutorial for a step by step walkthrough on how to make your own picture frame Christmas tree collar.
- Cut the tube and prep the base. Cut the cardboard tube slightly shorter than your frame height (about 9.75"). Spray paint the base to prevent yellow showing.

- Fill frames. Use scrapbook paper as background. Print and trim Santa photos, then attach them with double-sided tape.

- Attach frames to tube. Use foam mounting tape to secure each frame around the tube. Layer them for a clean fit.

- Customize the layout. Add a “featured photo” in front or turn it to the back.
