Why I love this craft

If you’ve ever dreamed of a Christmas tree collar that looks like it came straight from The Little Drummer Boy songbook, this DIY is for you! We’re turning a basic concrete form tube into a vintage-style drum collar using just fabric, ribbon, and hot glue.

Crafting with a Cardboard Concrete Form Tube

When I set out to make a unique Christmas tree collar, I stumbled across a surprising solution in the most unlikely of places—the concrete aisle at Home Depot. I picked up one of those giant cardboard concrete form tubes (you’ll usually find them near the lumber and cement), which are typically used to pour footings for decks and fences.

But with a little creativity, I turned that $24 construction material into four completely different tree collars! These tubes are lightweight, sturdy, easy to cut, and come in a size that compliments most trees (watch my full video to see how to make a narrower tree base, if needed). With just a utility knife, some paint or fabric, and a few embellishments, you can totally transform a plain old jumbo cardboard tube into a festive tree collar that matches your holiday style.
