MAKING YOUR OWN SET OF PLASTIC CUP HOLIDAY BELLS IS SO EASY!
Last year, I purchased a few sets of mini brass bells from Bachman’s – a garden, floral, and home decor center that’s local in the Minneapolis area. I love shopping there for seasonal items and inspiration. They even have a little cafe with the BEST quiche. It’s out little hidden gem, especially in the winter time. You can grab a baked treat, wander around among the indoor plants, and pretend it isn’t 10 degrees outside!
As much as I love supporting local businesses like Bachman’s, it isn’t always in our budget to do so. So, if I buy a home decor item from there, you know I absolutely LOVE it. Like these bells:
These mini brass bells quickly became my inspiration for making a Dollar Store dupe using… wait for it… plastic shot glasses.
Of all the crazy things my family has heard me reference when doing craft projects, “I’m going outside to spray paint shot glasses!” probably tops the list.
So with that, let’s get making!
WHY I LOVE THIS PROJECT
I can’t say I’ve crafted with Dollar Tree’s plastic shot cups before, so this was both new and exciting. I’ve made a Jute Rope Holiday Bells that called for paper party cups – but nothing with plastic shot cups.
With the plastic shot cups, you’ll be able to make up to 24 bells since that’s how many come in a pack. Plenty to work with!

Plastic Cup Holiday Bells
Add a unique touch to your holiday decor this winter with these super easy (and cute) Mini Plastic Cup Holiday Bells. You would never guess these mini bells are made from plastic shot cups.
Materials
- Plastic Shot Cups (Dollar Tree)
- Metallic Spray Paint (Behr, Champagne Gold in Matte)
- Twine
- Scissors
- Small Wood Beads
- Black & White Check Ribbon (or ribbon of your choice)
- Hot Glue
Instructions
- Watch the video tutorial before you begin, and let that be your visual guide for this project.
- Take the shot cups outside and spray them with the spray paint. It may take 3-4 good coats to get good coverage, depending on the type of spray paint you use.
- Cut a length of twine and fold it in half. Run the folded end through a wood bead and secure the loose tail ends with a knot.
- Push the wood bead down and make another knot to hold the wood bead in place. Trim off the tail end as close to the knot as possible.
- Add a dab of hot glue to the bottom of the spray painted shot cup and place the twine knot right on top of it with the tail end facing slightly toward you. Hold for a few seconds to ensure it is secured.
- Use a length of the ribbon and make a small bow tied by a simple knot. Once you have the size you want, trim the tails and secure to the knot end of the wood bead on the shot cup.
- Repeat for all other bells.
OPTIONAL: You can use a variety of bow colors to match your holiday decor. Also you can hang the bells individually and/or create a cluster of bells by tying a few together.
These holiday bells turned out super cute and there are so many ways you can incorporate them into your winter and holiday decor!

Holiday Bell Crafts
Unique DIY bells are having a major crafting moment right now. Here are a few other DIY bell crafts that I’ve made:
This craft reminds me of the hospital where my oldest son was born, 10 days before Christmas. As they wheeled me down the hall to my room from the delivery room, I looked up to see little bells hanging from the ceiling. The nurse told me that they made them from the caps that the formula bottles came with in the nursery.
Super Cute!
What a sweet memory! Thank you for sharing!
