These wood sign ornaments are the perfect addition to any neutral, black-and-white, or farmhouse Christmas decor. With just a few supplies, this project is super easy to make.
Put those wooden craft sticks to use – make these rustic DIY ornaments this holiday season.
Wood sign ornaments are the easiest way to give your farmhouse Christmas decor and upgrade!
Black and white paired with neutral colors seem to be the colors of the season, which provides great ideas for holiday decorations. For this particular project, I went with a black-and-white style, since it will go great with my farmhouse theme.
Winter can typically be a gloomy season, especially if you live in an area that gets tons of snow (hello, skiing and sledding). So if you’re looking for a winter boredom buster, this is a craft project that the kids can make. They can get really creative with their ornaments!
WHY I LOVE THIS PROJECT
I’m no stranger to a good Popsicle stick craft project. I’ve used wooden craft sticks in a variety of ways, including upscaling a cookie sheet into a serving tray.
I also like the versatility working with popsicle sticks offers. A simple, wooden statted surface gives you a really nice “canvas” for drawing, painting, and the like.
In my other ornament project, I used a similar method with the craft sticks and it still has its own unique look and finish.

- Waverly stain paint (brown)

TUTORIAL: HOW TO MAKE WOOD SIGN ORNAMENTS
Follow this quick video, or read the step-by-step directions below.
- Cut off the rounded edges of the popsicle sticks.
- Then, cut them in half.
- Stain 8 of the cut popsicle sticks with antique wax finish. Be sure to get the edges and ends for a complete finished look.
- Then, paint 6 popsicle sticks white. Remember to paint those ends and edges.
- Pair 3 white popsicle sticks together with 4 stained craft sticks.
- Create a “hanger” using about 10″ of twine, tying a knot at the top.
- Assemble the sticks and twin using hot glue.
- Using the fine tip paintbrush, paint a design of your choice on the wood sign ornament.
- Repeat the first 8 steps to create as many ornaments as you’d like.
TIP: If you want to get a more precise design, use a pencil first, then go over it with the fine-tip paintbrush and black paint. You can also experiment with different stain finishes and paint colors, too!
This is one of the cutest and most inexpensive holiday projects that your entire family can enjoy doing together. Consider making a few extra to give as gifts this Christmas!

I like these ornaments. I have so many from over the years. My mom had us do an ornament when we were younger. Even made some over the years. Thanks for sharing.
