This sweet mini pumpkin topiary goes together in just about 30 minutes.
There are so many pumpkin topiary ideas floating around out there, but I haven’t quite seen one like this before. They’re so simple and quick to putt together.
This is truly a unique way to add some pumpkin cuteness to a side table or even use these as a dining room table centerpiece (especially for Thanksgiving). They also would pair well with other fall decor, like these Embroidery Hoop Pumpkin Orbs.
WHY I LOVE THIS PROJECT
If you’ve followed me for any amount of time then you can probably tell how much I enjoy decor that is both inexpensive to make and unique looking at the same time. Making these mini topiaries are so easy and not to mention a cute addition to my fall decor.

TUTORIAL: HOW TO MAKE A MINI PUMPKIN TOPIARY
Follow this quick step-by-step tutorial below:
- Prep the Pumpkins: Paint the short pumpkin with dark orange acrylic craft paint. Then paint the tall pumpkin with medium orange acrylic craft paint. Set both aside to dry, and apply a second coat if necessary.
- Prep the Dowels: Paint the three wooden dowels with brown craft paint. Before the paint dries, remove some of the paint with a baby wipe – to create a stained wood effect. Set aside to dry.
- Assemble the Topiary: Hot glue one 1.25” foam ball into the bottom of each clay pot. Press the wooden dowel into the center of the foam ball, securing with more hot glue. Insert the other end of the wooden dowels into the bottom of the pumpkins to create a hole. Remove the dowel end, apply hot glue onto the top of the dowel and secure into the pumpkins.
- Decorate the Short Pumpkin: Create a polka dot pattern with a foam pouncer brush and bright orange acrylic craft paint. Let dry. Add an outline around the polka dots with a permanent black marker. Make the lines loose and sketchy.
- Decorate the Tall Pumpkin: Create a plaid pattern on the tall pumpkin with a flat paintbrush and dark orange acrylic craft paint. Let dry. Then add a thin plaid pattern using a permanent black marker. Make the lines loose and sketchy.
- Add the Pumpkin Stems: Paint the pumpkin stems with black acrylic craft paint. When the glue has dried, hot glue the stems back into the top of each pumpkin.
- Embellish the Clay Pots: Attach plaid ribbon around the rim of both clay pots, securing the ends with hot glue. Tie additional ribbon into a bow and glue to the front of the clay pot. Trim any long ribbon ends with scissors (fold the ribbon in half, and cut at a 45-degree angle). To finish, fill both clay pots with green reindeer moss.
Did you follow the same paint directions or do something different of your own? I’d love to know!
