THIS POM POM PUMPKIN WREATH IS SURE TO BE THE TOPIC OF CONVERSATION WITH YOUR GUESTS.
Contrary to popular belief, yarn isn’t just for knitting. Trust me when I say I don’t have a knitting bone in my body, which is why I love being able to use it in a slightly different way.
I originally started experimenting with yarn pom pom wreaths with this Winter Pom Pom Wreath and it turned out absolutely beautiful. Not only did it add a unique touch to my craft room door, but it was also versatile for the winter season. It didn’t have Christmas trees or snowmen on it, so it could be used all winter long.

WHY I LOVE THIS PROJECT
Did I mention that I do NOT knit? Besides that being the top reason why I love a good craft project like this, I also enjoy its inexpensiveness of it. A couple of skeins of yarn (keep an eye on that clearance yarn bin at the craft store!) and a few tools that I already have on hand mean I’m not spending an arm and a leg making this wreath.
I will be honest about this particular project, though. It can be somewhat time consuming when it comes to making the individual pom poms, so be sure to have a movie or podcast ready to help with the pastime.

TUTORIAL: HOW TO MAKE A POM POM PUMPKIN WREATH
Follow this quick video, or read the step-by-step directions below:
- To get started, you’ll need to assemble 11 large pom poms and 39 small pom poms.
- Wrap orange yarn around one side of the pom pom maker, and then around the other. For the large pom poms, I wrapped each side of the pom pom maker 100 times. For the small pom poms, I wrapped each side 75 times. This may vary, depending on the thickness of the yarn you select.
- Once both sides of the pom pom maker are wrapped with yarn, cut the yarn along the center gap of the arch.
- Then, run a length of twine through the middle and secure with a double knot to hold your pom together.
- To create the “pumpkin” look, double secure the pom pom with a piece of green yarn on the opposite end of the twine and trim it down to about an inch.
- Separate the two sides of the pom pom maker. Trim off any stray pieces or orange yarn that look out of place. Then give the pom pom “pumpkin” a good fluff.
- Repeat steps 2-6 until you have used up both skeins of orange yarn.
- Evenly space the large pom pom pumpkins around the wreath form. Tie each to the wreath form with the twine tail and a double knot. I prefer to loop the twine around TWO rings of the wreath form, instead of just one, for a more secure hold.
- Once the large pumpkins have been secured to the wreath form, fill in the spaces between with the smaller pumpkins.
- After all of the pumpkins have been secured, flip the wreath over and give it another good fluff.
- Finish off the wreath by making a hanger with green yarn. I doubled it up, braided it, and tied it into a simple bow.
** TIP: I always tie the twine around two of the metal wires on the wreath form. This keeps the pom pom from flopping around.
I really like how this pom pom pumpkin wreath turned out!
