Luckily Halloween doesn’t have to just be about ghosts, ghouls, and goblings. In fact, it doesn’t have to be scary at all.

Thanks to a simple, kid-friendly craft like this, you can make Halloween fun and non-scary. WHY I LOVE THIS PROJECT

One word – inexpensive. Craft sticks can be purchased in large quantities and used for multiple craft projects, which means a super small investment that goes a long way.

When it comes to this particular project, though, I love how easy it is to make. And most of the supplies I already have on hand. At most, I needed to restock on some of my orange paints. Other than that, this is truly an easy way to decorate for Halloween.

TUTORIAL: HOW TO MAKE CRAFT STICK JACK-O-LANTERNS

Follow these quick step-by-step directions below:

1. Assemble the pumpkins: To create the large pumpkin, line up five jumbo craft sticks on your work surface. For the medium pumpkin, line up five large craft sticks on your work surface. And for the small pumpkin, line up six mini craft sticks on your work surface. Using scissors to trim additional sticks to the width of the pumpkin and attach them to the back with hot glue.
2. Paint the large pumpkin with bright orange acrylic craft paint, the medium pumpkin with medium orange acrylic craft paint, and the small pumpkin with dark orange acrylic craft paint. Let dry. Apply a second coat, if necessary.
3. Download, print, and cut out the CRAFT STICK JACK-O-LANTERN PATTERNS (click the button above directly under the supply list to download). Trace the eyes, noses, and mouths onto black craft foam with a pencil. Cut out with scissors. Attach the features with hot glue.
4. Paint one jumbo and one regular craft stick with dark brown acrylic craft paint. Let dry. Apply a second coat, if necessary.
5. Cut the ends from the painted craft sticks and then attach them to the top center of the Jack-O-Lanterns with hot glue.
6. Twist a green chenille stem around a pencil, then slide off. Cut into three sections with scissors and attach to the right and/or left side of the Jack-O-Lantern stems with hot glue.
