When it comes to switching things up for your fall decor, these DIY acorns are a great way to do it!
Fall is always highlighted by pumpkins, mums, corn stalks, and hay bails. But what about throwing in something new like acorns?
I’ve done some Fall Acorn and Pumpkin Painted Rocks, which were super cute and perfect for adding to other decorations like a glass jar or succulent planter. But I was even more excited about these Easter egg acorns.
P.S. – If you’re looking to keep the acorn theme going into the Christmas season, try making these cute DIY Acorn Christmas Ornaments – they’re also made from Easter Eggs!
WHY I LOVE CRAFTING WITH BURLAP AND TWINE
Burlap and twine are so versatile and can be used in many styles and trends, especially when it comes to fall decor. They are also flexible and easy to work with, which makes them ideal for creating these acorns.
Not to mention, they are fairly inexpensive supplies to purchase and a little can certainly go a long way! Keep reading to see how these two come together with a few other supplies to make some super cute Easter egg acorns.

TUTORIAL: HOW TO MAKE EASTER EGG ACORNS
Follow this quick step-by-step tutorial below:
- Paint the outside of the plastic Easter eggs with dark brown craft paint. Let dry.
- Cut a piece of burlap. Center the egg in the piece of burlap, and secure with hot glue. Liquid craft glue can be used for this project, but you will have to wait for it to dry.
- Fold up the short sides of the burlap and glue down. Repeat with the long sides of the burlap ribbon.
- Continue to pleat and fold the burlap around the entire circumference of the egg, securing each section of ribbon with hot glue.
- Trim any excess burlap ribbon from the top of the Easter eggs. Insert a 6” length of twig into the holes at the top of each Easter egg and secure with hot glue.
- Tie the twine in a double knot around the twig. Create the cap of the acorn by coiling the twine around the top of the egg and secure with hot glue. Continue coiling the twine around the top one-third of the plastic egg.
. - To finish, trim the twig to ½” long with a pair of wire cutters.
Make just a few to toss in with other fall decor or makes lots to create an elaborate fall scene centerpiece.
