If you’ve been following me through the holidays then you know how much I love holiday ornament crafts. I’ve created everything from popsicle sticks to little snowmen made with the Dollar Store’s tumbling tower game.

I also like the fact that most – if not all – of the ornament-related projects I’ve done mesh well with my farmhouse Christmas theme.

WHY I LOVE THIS PROJECT

First and foremost, how awesome is it to use something that holds plants to create an ornament? If you’ve stocked up on these clay pots from season’s past, you’ll be able to put them into use for this project.

Another perk: You probably won’t have to buy very many supplies… if any at all. This craft uses common supplies you likely have laying around your craft room already. Heck, this project may actually help you clean out some of the craft supplies that have been collecting dust!

Here’s a quick step-by-step tutorial to make ONE ornament. Feel free to repeat the process as many times as you like!

  1. Apply a basecoat to the entire 2.5” clay pot with the dark brown acrylic craft paint. Let the paint dry and then apply a second coat, if necessary.
  2. Attach the two wiggle eyes to the gingerbread ornament using just a dab of hot glue.
  3. Add polka dot cheeks to the gingerbread ornament’s face by dipping a new pencil eraser into pink acrylic craft paint and applying the cheeks a few inches apart. Set aside to dry.
  4. Draw a squiggle line around the rim of the clay pot with white dimensional paint.
  5. Attach the mini white pom poms to the rim of the clay pot with the dimensional paint. Set aside to dry.
glu pom poms and googly eyes to clay pot
  6. Add a squiggle line around the top of the Gingerbread ornament with white dimensional paint. Draw a smile from cheek to cheek with a permanent black marker.
  7. Cut a 12” length of natural jute twine, tie it in a loop with a knot, and attach to the top of the clay pot Gingerbread ornament with hot glue.
add an ornament hanger with twine and ribbon
  8. Tie red and white gingham ribbon into a bow and glue to the top of the clay pot.

TIP: You can use liquid craft glue for this project. You would just have to wait for it to dry.
