Why I love this craft

Although this craft project takes a bit to make, I still love the process and how it turned out. The materials come from Dollar Tree, making it inexpensive to make. I also like how the finished product screams all things spring, especially when you add a bouquet of store-bought flowers.

Best place to purchase kraft paper?

My Dollar Tree carries kraft paper by the roll, but if you can’t find any at yours, then you can always use the kraft paper that comes in boxes when something is shipped. I would not recommend paper grocery bags; I think they would be a bit too thick to easily braid.

The inspiration for this craft:

A few years ago, I made a DIY Kraft Paper Christmas Scroll Sign and it turned out great. The durability of the kraft paper made it easy to work with and it already has a rustic touch to it because of the color, which is a win-win.

Instructions

  1. Watch video. Follow along with the tutorial video for a step-by-step walkthrough on how to create your own braided kraft paper vase.
  2. Cut kraft paper. Start by cutting the kraft paper into 1 1/2 strips.
  3. Create braid strands. Fold each strip into thirds and crinkle them a bit to reinforce what will be used to create the braid.
  4. Make braids. Attach 3 crinkled strips together at one end with painters tape and make a braid. (Watch the video to see how I did this.) Secure the ends with more painter's tape.
  5. Repeat steps 3-4. Repeat the previous two steps until you have A LOT of braids for your vase.
  6. Attach braids to vase. Using double sided tape, attach the braids horizontally to the glass vase until it is covered (bottom to top).
  7. Cover the seam. Cover the back seam with a vertical braid.
