Kraft paper is a craft staple that I always have in my craft room. In fact, at this moment I think I have 4 rolls in my craft closet. It’s such a versatile supply that you can do so much with. And while you may not think much of a plain roll of boring brown paper, this craft proves that even the most humble craft supply can be the star or your next wall decor project.

This craft can be totally customized using any graphic or text that you like. Supplies Needed:

  • roll of plain brown kraft paper
  • ruler and pencil
  • scissors
  • transfer paper and transfer tool – if you order the one I did, it comes with the tool
  • masking tape
  • sharpie marker
  • 3/8-inch dowel
  • miter shears
  • 4 paper clips
  • double-sided tape
  • twine
  • Christmas garland (for displaying)

Tutorial: How to make a Christmas Scroll Sign

Follow this quick video, or read the step-by-step directions below:

  1. Roll out the kraft paper. Measure and cut a piece of paper measuring approximately 15-inches by 4-feet long. Cut the roll of kraft paper to 15 inches wide
  2. Print out your template on plain white printer paper. Lay a piece of transfer paper, dark side down, in the middle of the kraft paper. Lay the template on top, and secure with small pieces of masking tape.
  3. Using the transfer tool, trace over the template. Use carbon transfer paper to trace the design onto the brown paper
  4. Remove the template and transfer paper. Be careful with the masking tape, so the kraft paper doesn’t rip. carefully remove the template and transfer paper
  5. Using miter shears, cut two 18-inch pieces of the wooden dowel.
  6. Roll both the top and bottom ends of the paper over each dowel. Secure each side of the paper behind the dowel with a paper clip. If you don’t want the dowel sliding around, add a piece of double-sided tape between the dowel and paper. Roll the ends of the paper around wooden dowels
  7. Hang with a length of twine. Wrap the ends of the twine around each end of the top dowel four times and secure with a knot.
  8. Hang with a swag of garland for added visual interest.
