I recently made these vinyl floral wrap vases and filled them with fresh grocery store flowers from Trader Joe’s.

This craft came together in a snap – and would make a great Mother’s Day gift or Teacher Appreciation gift. You could even give it as a hostess gift.

Let’s talk about Dollar Tree adhesive vinyl

Have you seen the selection of adhesive vinyl at Dollar Tree lately? So impressive, and SO much cheaper than other brands. Now, I’m not saying I would use this on items that get heavy wear. But for a seasonal item, or something that may not get that much use, it’s a great choice.

A few things to note about dollar store adhesive vinyl:

  • The vinyl is thinner than other vinyl I’ve worked with before. Be sure to do a test cut before diving in with your design.
  • The backing is also thinner and less durable. On my first cut with a regular grip mat, the paper backing started to rip when it came time to peel it off the mat. I switched to the light grip mat, and that worked perfectly.

How to layer vinyl using registration marks

There are several ways to layer vinyl for complex designs. This one uses registration marks that you add to your design in Cricut Design Space.

Use the shape tool to add a triangle underneath your design. Duplicate this triangle for each color vinyl. In my case, I had a green, light pink, and dark pink triangle. Align center the three triangles so they are stacked right on top of each other. Duplicate this stack and align it 2-inches to the right of the original.

Unite all elements of the same color. Then cut your project on your Cricut machine.

Weed your vinyl like normal. Then you can either:

  1. Apply transfer tape to the first layer. Apply the vinyl to the vase. Apply transfer tape to the second layer. Line up the triangle registration marks as you apply the vinyl to the vase. Repeat with the third layer of vinyl.
  2. Apply transfer tape to the first layer. Then apply the transfer tape to the second layer, lining up the triangle registration marks. Repeat with the third layer, so all three colors of vinyl are on the transfer tape. Then apply the vinyl to the vase.
