It’s barbecue season at Dollar Tree, which means now is the perfect time to stock up on bamboo grill skewers for crafting. They’re thinner than other wood dowels, making them easier to cut. And today I’m sharing a quick and easy craft to make with them.
And if you can’t buy these at the dollar store, don’t worry! You can buy bamboo skewers at any grocery store or WalMart.

Bamboo Skewer Vase Craft
Head to your local Dollar Tree and pick up a few supplies to make this super cute (and easy) Bamboo Skewer Vase Craft. Perfect for Mother's Day or Teacher Appreciation!
Materials
- 2 Packs of Bamboo Skewers (Dollar Tree)
- Small Glass Jar (I used a salsa jar)
- Jute Twine
- Folk Art Chalk Paint (blush pink)
- Heavy Duty Double-Sided Tape (wide)
- Lace Ribbon (Dollar Tree)
Tools
- craft scissors
- 1" paint brush
- parchment paper
Instructions
- Watch tutorial video. Watch the video for a step-by-step walkthrough of how to create your own bamboo skewer vase craft.
- Prep jar. If you haven't done so already, remove the label from your jar. You can also discard the top.
- Create a ruler. Using a piece of jute twine, measure around the circumference of the jar and cut the twine down to size. This will be used to measure how many skewers will be needed.
- Cut skewers varying lengths. Using the height of the jar, begin cutting skewers various lengths (using craft scissors).

- Paint the skewers. Lay the skewers on a piece of parchment paper and paint the sticks. Let them dry.

- Gather bamboo sticks. Lay them out in the order you prefer. I chose varying heights by placing some small next to tall with medium filtering in between.

- Attach the sticks to the jar. Put a piece of heavy duty double-sided tape around the lower part and the upper parts of the jar. Begin pressing the sticks onto the tape, ensuring your first stick and straight as it will guide the rest of them.
.
- Embellish. Use a strip of ribbon to tie around your finished skewer vase to give it an extra cute look. Add a bouquet of flowers for a quick and easy centerpiece.

Notes
I used 4 different heights for my skewers.
The Finished DIY Vase

I displayed my flowers with a mini hanging sign made from a bamboo cutting board.
