Most dollar stores, Wal Marts or even party supply stores often sell clear plastic plates and bowls, made to look like crystal dishes. It’s no secret that I love crafting with dollar store kitchen items, so today I decided to try a craft using mini clear plastic crystal bowls.

This craft came together in a snap – you just need to be a bit patient and wait for the paint to dry between coats. And all you really need is chalk paint and rub-on transfers (or a stamp, or decoupage embellishments, or anything else you like).

Mini Trinket Dish Craft
transform plastic mini crystal bowls with chalk paint & decal stickers to make these DIY Dollar Store Trinket Dishes.
Materials
- 2 plastic mini plastic “crystal” bowls, Dollar Tree
- E6000 glue
- 6 mini wood half balls
- White Rustoleum chalk paint
- Color chalk paint, FolkArt matte paint in "2435 Gentle Violet"
- Color chalk paint, Waverly chalk paint in "celery"
- Floral rub-on transfers
- Clear spray finish
Tools
- 1-inch flat paint brush
- Scissors
- Smoothing tool
Instructions
- Watch the video tutorial before you begin, and let that be your visual guide for this craft.
- Glue feet to the bowls: Use E6000 to glue 3 wood half balls to the bottom of each bowl. Let the glue dry.

- Base coat white: Paint the bowls with white chalk paint. Add 1 coat to the outside, and 2 coats to the inside, allowing the paint to dry between each coat.

- Add color chalk paint: Add 2 coats of color chalk paint to the outside of each bowl. Paint in all directions, back and forth, to get complete coverage in all the nooks and crannies of the carved detail in the mini plastic bowls.

- Tip for painting the edges: To get a smooth paint line along the edge of the bowl (between the white paint and your color chalk paint), gently smooth the brush right up to the edge in a long, flowing motion.
- Add floral transfers: Cut the rub-on transfer down to size. Remove the clear backing, and use a smoothing tool to apply the transfer inside the bowl. Repeat on the other bowl.

- Seal your project: To make this craft waterproof, add a coat or two of clear spray finish.
