Hey there! This year, I kept my Christmas decorating simple – by focusing mainly on one room. I expanded on my Dollar Store Christmas Tree from last year, and added a few new DIY touches. Pull up a chair and join me on my mini Christmas home tour.

Two Christmas Trees… In One Room

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: I know for a fact that there were some people who thought I had gone completely mad when I announced my decision to put up two Christmas trees in our living room this year. I even doubted myself and my decision for a bit.

See, because square footage is always at a premium in our home, we have a slim tree. You guys, slim trees are game-changers. Gone are the days of losing half of your living room to a tree.

BUT – this year, I wanted a little something more. See, I have this little school desk (that my aunt saved for me after my grandmother passed over a decade ago) that sits in the corner where I was thinking of putting up the tree.

With our slim tree and the little desk, I still wanted a little more. So in a random moment of creativity, I thought: Why don’t I do a second tree, a little shorter than my current tree, and make a little vignette to cozy up our awkwardly-shaped living room?

When I saw this $30 flocked tree (No – that’s NOT a typo. It really is $30) I knew that I was in business.  Want to see more about my trees, up close and personal? Watch this quick Facebook live video that I made.

The tall tree has the same Dollar Store Decorations and burlap tree skirt and garland from previous years. Then, with the flocked tree, I simply added a $5 roll of ribbon from the craft store.

DIY Classic Christmas Decorating

Here are a few other DIY touches that I added this year. First, let’s talk about that sign.

I finally broke down and bought a Cricut machine. You would think that I would start small with my first Cricut project, but I had a large piece of scrap plywood that I really (REALLY) wanted to turn into a sign for above the fireplace. So, here you have it. My first ever Cricut project. I’m hooked. (Tutorial and free template coming soon!)

I also added a few Black Friday impulse purchases from JoAnn Fabrics.

Then there’s my favorite DIY this holiday season. These pillow covers were made from drop cloths and Sharpie markers. To inexpensive and easy!

Love, love your home, Aimee. So beautifully Christmassy. (if that’s a word) The desk certainly adds with the pillow you placed on it. Great job.
