Making your own hanging spring flower bucket is super easy!
Did I mention how much I love the spring? Winters in Minnesota are everything cold, dark, and gloomy so when the sun starts to show more times than not and the weather gets a bit warmer – hello, Spring!
I especially enjoy this season because the decor and crafts I love to make inside my home can finally match what’s going on outside. From flowers and greenery to terrarium jars, there are so many ways to decorate for the spring season.
In this tutorial, I’m going to walk you through making a spring flower bucket that can hang on your wall, door, or vintage window pane.
WHY I LOVE THIS PROJECT
Each season. the Dollar Tree continues to surprise me. On one hand, you never know what they’re going to have and on the other, you’re never sure if a certain supply will be back in stock.
This year, they have a plethora of containers, like the flower market bucket, that can be used to make some super cute spring decor.
SUPPLIES NEEDED
- 1 enamel “flower market” bucket (medium-sized)
- Hammer, tiny screwdriver, and scrap wood
- Craft foam
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- 4 each – white wildflowers and boxwood
- Floral wire cutters
- Twine
- Black and white check ribbon
- Scissors
- Felt furniture protectors (optional) to protect your door from scratches
TUTORIAL: HOW TO MAKE A HANGING SPRING FLOWER BUCKET
Follow this quick video, or read the step-by-step directions below.
- Slightly dent your bucket in the back so it can lay somewhat flat. You just want the back of the bucket to be able to lay flat against the surface you choose to hang it on, without rolling around too much.
- Use a hammer and mini screwdriver to make a hole on each side of the bucket. Feel free to use a Sharpie to eyeball and mark where the holes should go. Be sure to use a piece of scrap wood under the bucket (to protect your work surface) when creating the holes.
- Hot glue 1-2 cubes of foam into the bottom of the bucket.
- Cut the base off each flower bouquet. Press the flower stems them into the foam in rows: begin with the boxwood in the back, and place the wildflowers in the front.
- Tie a piece of twine in each hole on the sides of the bucket (long enough to be used for holding the ribbon for hanging).
- Cut the ribbon about 6 feet long, and tie the twine around each end.
- Use another length of the same ribbon to create a bow. Use a smaller piece to tie the actual bow and that same piece for tying around the hanging ribbon to create a loop at the top.
*** NOTE: The ribbon I used was 9 feet long and I used almost all of it for hanging and creating the bow.
OPTIONAL: Apply 3 furniture protector rounds to the back of your bucket to prevent it from scratching your door, wall, etc.
How cute did this hanging spring flower bucket turn out? It’s also very versatile, so you can choose different flowers throughout the season!
