Why I love this craft

Nothing says spring quite like carrots. They’re a bright cheery reminder that spring is coming! And as someone who likes to stick to a more neutral color palette, I actually don’t mind crafting and decorating a bit with orange carrots in the springtime.

Spring Carrot Specimen Art

Easily create carrot specimen art with a pack of mini carrot cutouts, some paint, and a scrap wood piece.

Materials

  • 5x7 scrap wood piece (Dollar Tree)
  • White chalk paint
  • 12 Mini carrot ornaments (wood cutouts)
  • Folk Art matte pant (canyon sunset/dark orange, wicker white, and olive green)
  • Nautical jute rope (Dollar Tree)
  • Wood glue

Tools

  • half inch paint brush
  • fine tip paint brush
  • scissors

Instructions

  1. Watch the tutorial. Watch the video tutorial before you begin, and let that be your visual guide for this craft.
  2. Paint scrap book. Paint a layer of white chalk paint over the entire piece of scrap wood. Let dry.
  3. Paint the mini carrots. Mix orange and white paint to create a lighter orange color to paint the carrots, leaving the stem to be painted green (with a mix of white). Paint 4 carrots the darkest shade, 4 carrots in a medium shade, and 4 carrots in the lightest shade. .
  4. Make the frame. Hot glue the nautical jute rope around the edge of the scrap wood. hot glue jute rope around edge of wood piece
  5. Apply the carrots. Dry fit the carrots before gluing so you can space them evenly. Then secure them with wood glue. Let the glue dry before displaying. secure carrots to the sign with wood glue

Notes

Create an ombre look with the carrots by adding more white paint to the orange as you get toward the end of painting the carrots.
