I love crafting with Dollar Store wall decals
The dollar store sells a variety of fun craft stickers, wall decal stickers, and peel-and-stick wallpaper sheets.
I also have a slight obsession with all things specimen art.
So when I saw these butterfly wall decor stickers at Dollar Tree, I knew exactly what I had to do!

I used larger butterfly wall decal stickers from Dollar Tree for this specimen art project. But you could easily use any type of butterfly stickers. Since these stickers are on the larger side, I used a frame that measures 11.5×15-inches (on the inside).
If you choose to make this craft with smaller scrapbook-style stickers, you could easily use an 8.5×11-inch frame instead.

Butterfly Specimen Art
Easily and beautifully spruce up your spring decor with this Butterfuly Specimen Art. All you need are just a few supplies!
Materials
- Butterfly Wall Decals (Dollar Tree)
- Old Picture Frame
- Foam Board Poster
- Double-Sided Tape
- Fabric (I got mine from Joann's, but any neutral color fabric will work)
- Gold Cardstock Scrapbook Paper
- White Duct Tape
- Foam Double-Sided Mounting Tape
Tools
- Ruler
- Craft Knife
- Rotary Cutter
- Cutting Mat
- Scissors
Instructions
- Watch the video tutorial before you begin, and let that be your visual guide for this butterfly specimen art craft.
- Cut foam bard poster to size. If your frame doesn't come with a sturdy backing, use a foam board poster and cut it down to size using a pencil, ruler, and craft knife.
- Attach double-sided tape. Apply a strip of double-sided tape along each edge of the new foam board backing. In addition to the boarder, I also made an "X" in the center.
- Apply fabric. Peel off the backing of each strip of tape and apply the backing to a piece of fabric. (Drop cloth fabric would work great for this project.)
- Trim away excess fabric.. Using a rotary cutter and cutting mat, cut along the edges of the foamboard backing, to remove excess fabric.
- Apply the butterfly decals to cardstock paper. Place the butterfly decals onto the gold cardstock paper. Then, cut them out. The addition of the cardstock will make the make the decals sturdy.
- Place foam board into frame. Pop the foam board into the picture frame and secure the backing. I used duct tape; however, you can use whatever you have on hand.
- Dry-fit butterflies. Before securing the butterflies permanently, I dry fit them to get them into the exact place I wanted them to be.
- Secure the butterflies with mounting tape. I used double-sided (foam) mounting tape to secure the butterfly decals in place.
- Once complete, hang the specimen art on your wall!

There are 7 butterfly stickers but the completed product shows 8. Just wondering where the 8th one came from.
The sheet is double-sided, so it really comes with 14 stickers!
