The inspiration for this craft:
I made a spring hula hoop wreath a few years ago, and I’ve always wanted to make another one.
Having a new space inspired me to create a batch of patriotic-themed decor for my entryway and back patio. This craft project is just one of the four. You can see them all here.

Yield:
1 wreath
Head to your local Dollar Tree and grab a hula hoop and get ready to turn it into into a Patriotic Hula Hoop Wreath.
Materials
- hula hoop
- 9 bunches of faux flowers - red, white, blue
- spray paint (color: harbor blue)
- zip ties
- burlap ribbon (wide)
- twine
- blue and white check ribbon
- patriotic burlap bow
Tools
- craft shears or wire cutters
- scissors
Instructions
- Watch the video. Follow the tutorial for a step by step walkthrough for creating your own patriotic hula hoop wreath.
- Prep the hoop. Spray paint the entire hula hoop blue. Once dry, flip over the hoop and spray pint the other side.
- Prep the flowers. Remove the tags from the faux flowers and snip the bottom 4 sections off (about 3" or so).
- Secure the flowers to the hoop. Use zip ties to secure the flowers onto the hoop in a red, white, and blue pattern. Trim the excess tie. Complete this process until half the flowers have been added to the right half of the hoop.
- Make a the bow base layer. Use wide burlap ribbon, and make one loop. Then layer a figure-8 on top, and secure both layers in the center with twine.
- Make the bow middle layer. Repeat step 5 with another color ribbon.
- Make the bow top layer. Make a figure-8 with the 3rd ribbon. Pinch in the center, and secure with twine.
- Attach the bow. Secure the bow to the base of the hula hoop wreath with twine, secured with a double knot.
- Trim the bow ends. Fold the ribbon in half, and cut at a 45-degree angle to make a kite tail.
