Make your own budget-friendly fall pumpkins with this Dollar Tree mini bowl pumpkin tutorial. Simple, creative, and perfect for autumn farmhouse décor.

Materials

  • Dollar Tree mini faux cut crystal bowls (4-pack, party aisle)
  • White spray paint or primer
  • Chalk paint (bright orange, light pink, and tan)
  • Dollar Tree makeup sponge or foam applicator
  • Twine (for braids and stems)
  • Faux greenery (optional, for embellishing)
  • Mod Podge

Tools

  • E6000 glue
  • Hot glue gun + glue sticks
  • Scissors
  • Tape (to hold twine ends while braiding)
  • Paint brushes (flat 1-inch brush + small detail brush, optional)
  • Silicone fingertip protectors (optional, but highly recommended!)

Instructions

    1. Watch video. Follow along with the video tutorial for a walkthrough on how to make your own plastic bowl pumpkins.
    2. Paint the Bowls. Give each of your plastic bowls a light coat of white spray paint or primer on the outside. This will help the chalk paint stick better. Don’t stress about perfect coverage — just enough for a base coat.
    3. Assemble the Pumpkin Base. Using a mix of E6000 glue (for strength) and hot glue (for quick hold), line the rim of one bowl and press the second bowl on top, forming a sphere. Because the bowls are wavy, expect small gaps — don’t worry, you’ll cover them later! Add extra hot glue around the seam for reinforcement. glue two bowls together
    4. Add Pumpkin Color. Grab your sponge or makeup applicator and start dabbing on the bright orange chalk paint. While the orange is still wet, blend in some pink and tan for depth and a more muted look. Continue layering until you’re happy with the color. Repeat on all your pumpkin bases.
    5. Braid the Twine Seam Cover. Cut three long strands of twine (about 2–2.5 feet each), tape one end down, and braid. Once you’ve got a braid long enough to wrap around your pumpkin seam, lightly paint it with the same orange/pink colors. The twine will absorb just enough to leave rustic texture showing through. braid twine and paint orange
    6. Make the Pumpkin Stem. Wrap twine around your fingers 10–12 times, trim, and cut one end loose while keeping the other intact. Twist the bundle into a stem shape and soak it in Mod Podge to hold. Tape or weight it down so it dries twisted and sturdy.
    7. Final Assembly. Hot glue the braided twine around the seam of your pumpkin, pressing gently with a silicone fingertip protector to avoid burns. Trim any excess. Then, hot glue your twine stem onto the top center of the pumpkin. Add a touch of faux greenery for extra fall flair. hot glue braided twine to craft
    8. Repeat & Customize. Repeat the process for as many mini pumpkins as you’d like! Try painting some in lighter or darker tones so no two look exactly the same. embellish with pumpkin stem and greenery
