Dollar Store Hanging Wood Shelf
Grab a wood shelf from the Dollar Store and sheet of peel-and-stick wallpaper. I'm showing you how to make a DIY Chevron Pattern Wood Hanging Shelf.
Materials
- Dollar Store Wood Hanging wall shelves - these come in a two-pack of smaller shelves or a one-pack with a single larger shelf. For this project, I used one small and one large shelf
- Dollar Store Wood Pattern Wallpaper sheets- one sheet will cover one large shelf or two smaller shelves.
- Glue stick
- Masking tape
Tools
- Smoothing tool
- Cutting mat
- PenBlade or x-acto knife
- Small paint brush or dowel
- Scissors
Instructions
- Watch the video tutorial before you begin, and let that be your visual guide for this project.
- Cut the sheet of wallpaper in half (if making a large shelf) or quarters (if making a small shelf).
- Cover one side of the shelf with glue from the glue stick. Remove the adhesive backing from a piece of cut wallpaper. Center the wallpaper onto the shelf and smooth with the smoothing tool.
- Use the PenBlade to cut a small hole in the wallpaper to match the hole in the wood shelf. From the wallpaper side of the shelf, stick the end of a small paintbrush through the hole, pushing the wallpaper through the hole as well.
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 on the other side of the shelf.
- Wrap the rope ends in masking tape, to prevent fraying, and thread them through the holes in the shelf.
- Make as many hanging shelves as you like and display them with small plants or a letter board.
My finished Wall Shelves
I hung up my two shelves on my freshly-painted office wall, displaying a Dollar Tree letter board and a few mini faux succulents as well. I love how the light wood looks on the dark green wall.

Dollar Store Stenciled Wood Plank Sign
Let’s paint a wood plank sign from the dollar store with a Cricut stencil and white paint to make a cute piece of wall decor.
Materials
- 1 wood plank sign - Dollar Tree
- Stencil vinyl
- Transfer tape
- White acrylic craft paint
- Wall sparkle
Tools
- Cricut machine and Cricut Design Space
- SVG file to cut – I used #M47E8B46A in Cricut Design Space
- Smoothing and weeding tools
- Small bowl and popsicle stick, for mixing
- Pouncer brush
Instructions
- Watch the video tutorial before you begin, and let that be your visual guide for this project.
- In Cricut Design Space, select your stencil pattern and size it to your sign.
- Cut the stencil out on stencil vinyl. Weed the design, and use transfer tape to apply the stencil to the wood sign.
- Mix equal parts white paint and wall sparkle in a small bowl. Load a pouncer brush with white paint mixture. Using a straight up-and-down motion, stencil the design onto the sign.
- While the paint is still a bit wet, remove the stencil. Use a weeding tool to remove some of the smaller vinyl pieces.
- Let the paint dry completely before hanging the sign.
Notes
NOTE: Can’t find one of these plank signs at Dollar Tree? No worries! This project can be created on just about any unfinished, stained, or painted wood plant sign. Check your local craft store for options. If you want to go the DIY route, these DIY Wood Slat Panels would make a great alternative as well.

Painted Fabric Picture Frame Trio
I finished off my little corner with a set of three picture frames and some painted scraps of drop cloth fabric.

Painted Fabric Picture Frame Trio
Paint some scraps of drop cloth fabric and clip them to dollar store arch picture frames to make a cute piece of custom wall decor.
Materials
- 3 arch picture frames - Dollar Tree (see not below if you can’t find this exact style)
- Scrap of drop cloth fabric, enough for 3 4x6-inch pieces
- Matte Mod Podge
- Waverly chalk paint in the color moss
- Pencil
- White acrylic craft paint
- OPTIONAL (if you want to paint the silver clips gold): Rub n Buff wax in Antique Gold, a small screwdriver, and masking tape
Tools
- Scissors
- 1-inch wide paint brush
- Fine-tip paint brush
Instructions
- Watch the video tutorial before you begin, and let that be your visual guide for this project.
- OPTIONAL: Paint the silver clips gold. Use a small screwdriver to loosen the screw on the silver clips just a bit. Slide small pieces of masking tape under the loosened clip. Use a grubby old paintbrush or q-tip to apply a small amount of Rub n Buff wax to the clips. Set aside to dry.
- Cut three pieces of drop cloth fabric to approximately 4x6-inches in size. Pull threads away from the fabric edges to fray them. Continue to pull and trim threads until the edges are frayed to your liking.
- Use a wide paint brush to apply Mod Lodge to the front of each drop cloth piece, leaving about a 1/2-inch unpainted border. Let dry.
- Paint moss green chalk paint over the dried Mod Lodge. Feel free to make the rectangle shape rough, with brush strokes showing around the edges. Let dry.
- Use a pencil to sketch your designs on the dry green paint. Go over the pencil template with white paint and a fine-tip paint brush. Let dry.
- When the gold Rub n Buff wax has dried completely, remove the masking tape and tighten the screws on the clips. Then clip each fabric piece to a frame.
- Make as many frames as you like, and hang them together.
Notes
Can’t find these arch frames at Dollar Tree? No worries! There are often other styles of frames with similar clips. Or you can paint these fabric pieces and frame them in a regular picture frame.
