Video Tutorial: Jenga Valentine Ornaments
Follow this quick video, or read the step-by-step directions below:
Craft #1 – Mini Wooden Frames
Supplies
- Jenga game pieces (at Dollar Tree, it’s called Tumbling Tower Game)
- Americana acrylic craft paint – in red, pink, and white
- paint brushes
- hot glue gun and glue sticks
- e6000 glue
- small screw eye hooks – available at most hardware stores
- drill and small drill bit
- thin floral wire
- wire cutters
- small wood beads
- scissors
- printable graphics printed out onto white cardstock (to go inside the frame ornaments) – download the printable that I used here
Tutorial
- Paint four wooden pieces. Feel free to use a dry brush and let some wood grain poke through. Set aside to dry. TIP: I like to use parchment paper for things like this. When you paint all the sides at once, the surface doesn’t stick like it would with newspaper.
- Drill two small pilot holes into the long flat edge of one wood piece. Note: they will be a bit off-center, because of the way the frame is assembled later. Twist two screw eye hooks into the pilot holes.
- Glue the wooden pieces together into a frame shape. TIP: Add a dab of e6000 glue (for better long-term hold) and a dab of hot glue (to hold the ornament together while the e6000 glue dries). I also found it easiest to do this while keeping the wood pieces flat on my work surface.
- Print out these printable graphics. Trim down to size by cutting just inside the square outline.
- Line the back edge of the frame with hot glue and place the paper cut out over the glue. Smooth down.
- Cut a 6-inch length of floral wire. String one end of wire through one screw eye hook. Twist the wire end over hook and twist 3-4 times. String 10-12 tiny wood beads onto the wire. String the opposite wire end through the second screw eye hook. Twist the end and trim away any excess.

Supplies

- paint brushes
- pencil

- thin ribbon or twine
- scissors

- Glue the wooden pieces together along the long edge. TIP: Add a dab of e6000 glue (for better long-term hold) and a dab of hot glue (to hold the ornament together while the wood glue dries).
- Use a pencil to sketch a design on the ornament. Use a fine point brush to paint over the pencil with black paint.
- ADD A HANGER – Drill a small pilot hole into the top of the ornament. Twist a screw eye hook into the pilot hole. Run a piece of twine or thin ribbon through the hook and tie with a knot.

I made these and the Christmas ones and they turned out so cute! My kids gave the Valentine’s signs to their teachers instead of cards this year. Have you made any for St. Patrick’s Day?
