Glass Jar Pine Tree Lantern
Reuse an old pickle jar to make this DIY Glass Jar Pine Tree Lantern with epsom salt and hot glue embellishments.
Materials
- 1 glass jar
- green acrylic craft paint
- hard coat mod podge
- epsom salt
- twine
- candle
Tools
- hot glue gun and glue sticks
- fine point paint brushes
- scissors
Instructions
- Watch the video tutorial before you begin, and let that be your visual guide for this craft.
- Clean and prep the jar: Remove the label, wash the jar with soapy water, and dry completely.
- Make hot glue trees: Use your hot glue gun to "draw" a series of trees around the base of the jar, making sure to vary the size and heights of the trees. Let the hot glue harden.
- Paint the pine trees: Paint two light coats of green paint over the hot glue trees, allowing the paint to dry between coats. Be sure to use brush strokes that follow the branches, for a natural effect.
- Add snow: Work in sections around the jar. Apply mod podge at the base of the jar and between some bottom tree branches. Sprinkle on epsom salt, and shake off any excess. Repeat all the way around the jar. Let the mod podge dry.
- Embellish the jar: Wrap the mouth of the jar 5-6 times with twine and finish with a simple bow.
