DIY Peat Pot Bells
Budget-friendly and adorable—these Christmas bell ornaments from peat pots are perfect for tree decor or gifting!
Materials
- 3 peat pots (seed starter pots from Dollar Tree)
- Black acrylic paint (I used FolkArt Matte)
- Metallic gold paint (DecoArt Crafter’s Gold)
- 3 small wooden beads
- Twine with gold thread (from Michaels)
- Faux greenery sprigs (Dollar Tree)
- Thin red and white check ribbon
- Painter’s tape
Tools
- Hot glue gun & glue sticks
- Wooden skewer
- Pouncer brush
- Scissors
- Marker or Sharpie
- Parchment paper (optional for drying surface)
Instructions
- Watch video. Follow the tutorial for a step by step walkthrough for making your own DIY holiday bells.
- Paint the Pots: Paint the outside and inside of each peat pot with black paint. These pots soak up paint like crazy, so expect to use a generous amount. Let them dry on parchment paper.

- Add Gold Paint: Using a pouncer brush, apply metallic gold paint to the outside only of each peat pot. Let dry completely.

- Paint the Beads: Dab each small wooden bead onto a wooden skewer with hot glue, then paint them with the same gold paint. Let dry and pop them off.

- Thread the Beads: Wrap one end of the twine in painter’s tape, cut it at an angle, and slide on a painted wooden bead. Tie a knot below the bead to secure it, then trim the end.

- Thread the Bell: Thread the other end of the twine through the large hole in the bottom of each pot. Mark the twine where you want the bead to hang, then tie a knot. If the knot’s too small for the big hole, reinforce it with a dab of hot glue.
- Add Greenery and Ribbon: Cut a small sprig of faux greenery in half and hot glue one piece to the top of each bell. Tie a small bow using the “bunny ears” method with red and white check ribbon and hot glue it to cover the greenery stem.

The Finished Bells:
Aren’t these peat pot bells just the sweetest? I love how lightweight they are—perfect for hanging on the Christmas tree or adding to a garland. Plus, they’re eco-friendly and super affordable.
