Materials

  • 3 peat pots (seed starter pots from Dollar Tree)
  • Black acrylic paint (I used FolkArt Matte)
  • Metallic gold paint (DecoArt Crafter’s Gold)
  • 3 small wooden beads
  • Twine with gold thread (from Michaels)
  • Faux greenery sprigs (Dollar Tree)
  • Thin red and white check ribbon
  • Painter’s tape

Tools

  • Hot glue gun & glue sticks
  • Wooden skewer
  • Pouncer brush
  • Scissors
  • Marker or Sharpie
  • Parchment paper (optional for drying surface)

Instructions

  1. Watch video. Follow the tutorial for a step by step walkthrough for making your own DIY holiday bells.
  2. Paint the Pots: Paint the outside and inside of each peat pot with black paint. These pots soak up paint like crazy, so expect to use a generous amount. Let them dry on parchment paper. paint the cardboard pots black
  3. Add Gold Paint: Using a pouncer brush, apply metallic gold paint to the outside only of each peat pot. Let dry completely. paint the pots gold
  4. Paint the Beads: Dab each small wooden bead onto a wooden skewer with hot glue, then paint them with the same gold paint. Let dry and pop them off. paint the wood beads gold
  5. Thread the Beads: Wrap one end of the twine in painter’s tape, cut it at an angle, and slide on a painted wooden bead. Tie a knot below the bead to secure it, then trim the end. string wood beads and tie knot in twine
  6. Thread the Bell: Thread the other end of the twine through the large hole in the bottom of each pot. Mark the twine where you want the bead to hang, then tie a knot. If the knot’s too small for the big hole, reinforce it with a dab of hot glue.
  7. Add Greenery and Ribbon: Cut a small sprig of faux greenery in half and hot glue one piece to the top of each bell. Tie a small bow using the “bunny ears” method with red and white check ribbon and hot glue it to cover the greenery stem. embellish with faux greenery and bow

The Finished Bells:

Aren’t these peat pot bells just the sweetest? I love how lightweight they are—perfect for hanging on the Christmas tree or adding to a garland. Plus, they’re eco-friendly and super affordable.
