Making your own herb garden is actually pretty easy and will give you instant access to herbs for cooking. Once you have your garden planted, make a few of these to add a special touch.
WHY I LOVE THIS PROJECT
Craft sticks are one of the easiest supplies to work with. I’ve made many things with them and in most cases, they’ve been easy to manipulate, cut, punch holes in, and the like. They are so versatile and can be used to make some pretty creative decor.
This project is one of the easiest, yet creative ways, to use them.

TUTORIAL: HOW TO MAKE CRAFT STICK PLANT TAGS
Follow the quick step-by-step tutorial below:
- Roughly paint the front and back sides of the jumbo craft sticks with the white acrylic paint. Some of the paint will absorb into the craft stick, creating a nice rustic finish.
- Using the heavy-duty hole puncher, punch a hole in the top center of each painted craft stick. You’ll need to be at least 1/4″ down from the top to prevent the craft stick from splitting.
- Cut an 8″ length of natural jute twine and feed it through the punched hole of the craft stick. Tie it in a bow and cut off as much excess as you prefer. Repeat this for all other craft sticks.
- Lay out the letters to the herbs you want to spell, but do not connect the letter stamps. Starting with the first letter, tap into the black ink pad, and then stamp the letter onto the painted craft stick starting at the top. Continue stamping each letter individually down the craft stick until the word is completely spelled**.
- Continue the previous step for each of the remaining sticks.
** TIP: For any sections of the letter that do not print fully, simply fill it in with the fine tip permanent marker.
OPTIONAL: Use a variety of upper and lower case letters to provide a quirky twist.
Are these plant labels not the cutest? Not to mention, they were so easy to make. If you want to add a spunk of color to your herbs, simply paint the sticks in a variety of colors.
