If you’ve been around here for any length of time, you already know I have a slight obsession with pizza pan crafts. And by slight, I mean… I will happily turn a Dollar Tree pizza pan into just about anything.
This time, I wanted to make a decorative tray with a soft tropical vibe. Think creamy paint, leafy decals, rope trim, and little rope handles on the sides.
The best part is that this project is super easy, budget-friendly, and customizable. You could lean tropical like I did, or swap the decals and colors to fit pretty much any other style you like.

Pizza Pan Wall Decal Tray
This easy DIY tray starts with a plain metal pizza pan and turns into a pretty decorative piece you can use on a coffee table, kitchen counter, shelf, or even in a guest bathroom. I styled mine with tropical palm leaf decals, but you can absolutely make it your own.
Materials
- 1 metal pizza pan, from Dollar Tree
- Masking tape
- White spray paint
- Cream chalk paint
- Dollar Tree wall decals, palm leaf pattern
- Clear sealer spray or Mod Podge
- Decorative rope (cream or jute)
- E6000 adhesive
- Green floral wire
Tools
- 1-inch flat paintbrush
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Instructions
- Watch the video. Follow along with the video tutorial for a step-by-step walkthrough of how to make your own pizza pan tray.
- Tape Off the Edge of the Pizza Pan. Start by cutting masking tape into thin strips and applying them around the raised rim of the pizza pan. This keeps paint off the edge so the rope trim can adhere directly to the bare metal later. Although this extra step takes a few minutes, it creates a much stronger bond for the rope.
- Prime the Pizza Pan. Spray the front of the pizza pan with a light coat of white spray paint to prime the surface. The primer doesn't need to provide perfect coverage—it simply helps the chalk paint adhere better.
- Paint the Tray. After the primer dries, paint the entire front of the pizza pan with a soft cream-colored chalk paint using a 1-inch flat paintbrush. Apply two coats, allowing the paint to dry completely between each coat for a smooth, even finish.
- Remove the Tape. Carefully peel away the masking tape to reveal the bare metal edge underneath. A Cricut weeding tool, craft knife, or razor blade makes it easier to lift the tape. The exposed metal gives the rope trim a clean surface for better adhesion.
- Decorate with Wall Decals. Peel the Dollar Tree tropical wall decals from their backing and arrange them across the painted pizza pan. Use as many leaves as needed to create a full, balanced design. Wall decals make it easy to add detailed artwork without stencils or hand painting.
- Seal the Surface. Protect the painted finish and wall decals with a coat of clear spray sealer. Mod Podge also works well if you prefer a brush-on finish. Sealing the surface helps the tray hold up to everyday use.
- Add the Rope Trim. Glue cream-colored decorative rope around the outer edge of the pizza pan. Apply E6000 adhesive alongside hot glue as you work your way around the rim. The hot glue holds the rope in place immediately, while the E6000 provides a stronger, permanent bond. Trim the rope at the end and neatly join the two ends together.
- Create the Rope Handles. Cut two pieces of leftover rope, each about 6 inches long. Wrap green floral wire tightly around both ends of each rope piece to create finished-looking handles. The green wire complements the tropical design, but neutral floral wire or jute twine would work just as well.
- Attach the Handles. Hot glue the rope handles to opposite sides of the tray, leaving a slight arch in the middle of each one instead of pulling them tight against the pan.

If you’re as obsessed with pizza pan crafts as I am, this definitely won’t be your last one. They’re inexpensive, easy to work with, and there are so many ways to transform them into cute decor.
This tray is one of those projects that looks so much more expensive than it actually is, which is pretty much my favorite kind of craft.
