DIY Floral Paint Brush Canvas Art
Looking for unique craft room decor? Transform Dollar Tree paint brushes and faux flowers into charming floral artwork with this simple DIY tutorial.
Materials
- 3-pack Dollar Tree paint brushes
- White chalk paint
- Light green craft paint
- Dark brown craft paint
- Taupe or light brown craft paint
- 8x10 stretched canvas
- Faux flowers (3 different colors)
- Foam mounting tape
Tools
- Pliers
- Wire cutters or floral snips
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Paint brushes
Instructions
- Watch the video. Follow along with the video tutorial for a step-by-step walkthrough of how to make your own paint brush canvas craft.
- Remove the Paint Brush Bristles. Start by pulling all of the bristles out of the paint brushes. A pair of pliers makes this job much easier. Simply grip the bristles and pull them out of the metal ferrule. Continue until all three paint brushes are completely empty.

- Paint the Handles White. Paint each paint brush handle with white chalk paint. The white paint acts as a base coat and helps create the weathered wood finish later. Apply two coats if needed for full coverage. Try to avoid getting paint on the metal ferrule part. If you accidentally do, simply wipe it away while the paint is still wet. Allow the handles to dry completely before moving on.
- Paint the Canvas. While the paint brush handles are drying, paint an 8x10 stretched canvas. I used a soft light green shade, but you can customize this project with any color that matches your decor. Yes sure to paint the canvas sides as well as the front panel.

- Create a Faux Wood Finish. Using a dry brush technique, dip a flat brush lightly into dark brown paint, wipe off most of the paint, and brush long strokes along the handle. Repeat with a lighter taupe color.

- Create Floral Paint Brushes. Choose three coordinating faux flower colors. Using floral snips or wire cutters, cut the flower stems fairly short. Before gluing, do a quick test fit by placing the stems into the opening where the paint brush bristles were removed. Once you're happy with the arrangement, secure the flowers inside the paint brush ferrule with hot glue. Repeat for all three paint brushes.

- Attach the Paint Brushes to the Canvas. Add a square of foam mounting tape to the back of each paint brush handle. Arrange the paint brushes vertically on the canvas, spacing them evenly across the surface. Press firmly to secure.

The Finished Craft
That’s it! In just a few simple steps, you’ve turned ordinary Dollar Tree paint brushes into a charming piece of floral wall art.
The finished canvas would look adorable:
- In a craft room
- In an art studio
- On a gallery wall
- As a handmade gift for an artist or crafter

The combination of weathered paint brush handles, colorful faux flowers, and a soft painted background creates a piece that’s both creative and cheerful—perfect for inspiring your next crafting session.
