Give a gift in style with this Easter gift card holder.

In addition to the egg hunts and family gatherings, Easter is such a fun time to give gifts.

From Easter-inspired Chex mix to bunny handprint crafts for kids, you can get pretty creative with the gift-giving. With this particular craft project, it will take you beyond the simple Easter basket and help you create something that will surely turn some heads.

Not to mention, this is much more than a gift and can easily be repurposed by the receiver. Whether they choose to plant a small flower or use it to hold pens on a desk, they’ll enjoy giving a gift that keeps on giving!

WHY I LOVE THIS PROJECT

I love this project because it is genuinely creative and unique. There are so many things you can do with a terracotta pot, but adding a clay bunny card holder takes things to a new creative level.

This is also a craft that can be personalized depending on your own decorative style.

SUPPLIES NEEDED

  • Crayola model magic clay (singular pack per peep)
  • Extra fine craft glitter
  • Small terracotta pot
  • Basket filler
  • Lavender paint (for pot) and brown paint (for peep eyes)
  • Mod Podge
Supplies to make a clay Peeps gift card holder
  • Rolling pin
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • Craft knife
  • Ribbon of choice
  • Ball point pen for peep eyes (can also use the end of a paintbrush)

TUTORIAL: HOW TO MAKE AN EASTER GIFT CARD HOLDER

Just follow this quick step-by-step tutorial:

  1. Split the clay in half and roll it out using the rolling pin. Roll the clay to a half-inch thickness for the base of the peep.
    roll out the yellow clay
  2. Form the clay into an oval shape. Mold the back into a tail by pinching the back. Be sure to keep the base smooth.
  3. Shape the neck and head of the peep by rolling it into a short rope-like shape. Stand it up and begin to smooth downwards using fingers to create a Hershey kiss-like shape. Keep the bottom the same width as the base. Create a short neck and pinch in the front to create a beak.
  4. Attach the neck to the base and smooth out the seams.
  5. Use a craft knife to carefully create a slit behind the head. This will create the groove for the gift card to fit nicely and snugly.
slice clay peep and cover with glitter
  6. Allow the clay peep to dry completely before adding a layer of mod podge and glitter. Allow the mod podge and glitter to dry completely as well.
  7. Using a pen or the end of a paintbrush, create dots for the eyes on each side of the beak.
paint and eye on the chick and paint the clay pot
  8. Paint the terra cotta pot any color of your choice. Once dried, add filler, a ribbon, and place the card holder inside.

** TIP: Make sure the card holder groove is deep enough before allowing it to dry.
