DIY Treats for Santa Plate
Create an adorable DIY Santa cookie plate from a Dollar Tree burner cover! This budget-friendly Christmas craft features a free printable and faux enamelware finish.
Materials
- Dollar Tree burner cover
- White spray paint
- Matte Mod Podge (or your favorite finish)
- Free Treats for Santa printable
- Printer paper or lightweight cardstock
- Parchment paper
- Black acrylic or chalk paint
- Picture stand or plate display (optional)
Tools
- Scissors
- Mini heat press (optional)
- Fine-tip paintbrush
Instructions
- Watch the Video. Follow along with the video tutorial to see exactly how to create this faux enamelware Christmas plate.
- Paint the Burner Cover. Spray paint the entire small burner cover white, including the inside. Allow it to dry completely before moving on.
- Apply Mod Podge. Brush an even coat of Mod Podge across the flat center of the burner cover. Set it aside until the Mod Podge is completely dry.
- Prepare the Printable. Download the free printable, center the burner cover over the design, trace around it, and cut the circle about ⅛ inch inside the traced line so it fits neatly inside the burner cover.
- Attach the Printable. Place the printable onto the dried Mod Podge. Cover it with parchment paper and use a mini heat press to reactivate the Mod Podge, creating a smooth, bubble-free finish. If you don't have a heat press, simply apply the printable with fresh Mod Podge, using heavier printer paper or lightweight cardstock to help minimize wrinkles.
- Create the Faux Enamelware Edge. Using a small paintbrush and black paint, lightly distress sections of the rim. A little goes a long way—this simple detail gives the plate its vintage enamelware look.
Notes
Tips for Success
* Use the small burner cover—the printable is sized specifically for it.
* Let the Mod Podge dry completely before using the heat transfer method.
* Don't overdo the black paint around the edge. Random, uneven distressing creates the most realistic enamelware look.
* If you're using regular Mod Podge instead of the heat press method, choose a heavier-weight printer paper or cardstock for the smoothest finish.
