Why I Love this Craft
Have you ever received a gift that took extra strength and time to get into? Or, how about watching someone try to open a gift that left them more anxious than anything? With the wrapping technique I share with you below, Christmas morning gift openings will be a breeze. There are no knots, super ties, or anything else extravagant involved with wrapping the perfect present (with a bow)!
My secret: wrap small gifts diagonally with gift wrap
Just turn your present on the diagonal from the wrapping paper. This wastes less paper and results in beautiful corners around your gift box. I LOVE wrapping my gifts with simple paper and a beautiful ribbon bow. How classic does this gift look?
Supplies Needed
- paper large enough to cover your gift
- tape (I use double-sided.)
- scissors
- fabric ribbon (Or a ribbon of your choice.)
How to wrap the perfect present Christmas gift:
Follow this quick video, or read the step-by-step directions below.
- Gather your supplies so they’re all in one place.
- Start by wrapping your present using the diagonal method shown in the video. I find this to be the easiest way to use less paper and provide a cleaner wrap. Position the gift in the paper diagonally. Fold up the bottom, then fold in the sides, and finally fold down the top flap.
- Measure out a few lengths of ribbon. For the gift in the video, I used six lengths of ribbon plus a little extra.
- Start with the end of the ribbon and move over about 2 lengths, leaving extra ribbon on the right side.
- Wrap the ribbon once around horizontally (toward the back of your gift). Make sure everything is flat.
- Secure both pieces of ribbon under your thumb (this will be on the left side edge of the gift) and bring the piece up toward the middle of the gift to wrap it vertically. Be sure to keep your ribbon flat.
- Once you’ve taken it vertically around the back, loop it up in the front, underneath both pieces of the original ribbon. This creates a knot that will stay still on its own.
- Now, adjust the knotted part toward the middle of the gift so it is centered.
- With the ribbon in your desired position, it’s time to tie the bow. Make a simple loop with the piece from the top left and take the right piece and tie it around the loop as though you were tying a shoe.
- Be sure to pull the tail of the looped piece down before pulling your bow tight.
Helpful Tips to Wrap the Perfect Present
- Using double-sided tape will help give your gift a tapeless (and cleaner) look.
- Ribbon with wire is easier to manipulate versus non-wire ribbon (but any would work).
- You can jazz up the gift even more by using ornaments, photos, and other embellishments.
Attach a black and white photo to a Christmas gift:
This year, I finally went through all of our digital photo files and found our pictures with Santa going back 8 years.
I thought it would be fun to attach this year’s current Santa picture to my twins’ stocking gifts. What do you think?
