Today I’m sharing a fun DIY “Hot Glue Canvas Art” wall decor project that I put together for the gallery wall in my bedroom. The gallery wall was part of my Cape Cod Coastal bedroom makeover a while back. I have seen some creative ideas for hot glue canvas art, and decided to combine the concept with a quote from a favorite song.
This was such a fun DIY project, and I’m so excited to share the tutorial with you. Let’s get started…

Everything You Need to Make Hot Glue Canvas Art

- printer and paper
- pencil
- tape
- hot glue gun and glue sticks – I recommend using never-ending hot glue gun sticks for projects like this
- craft paint, assorted colors
- paint brushes
Hot Glue Canvas Art: Tutorial
Step 1: Pick Your Pattern and Trace
I chose a quote from a song, “Somewhere beyond the sea,” but you could use any phrase or pattern you want.
Print your design on computer paper, and trace the pattern onto the canvas with a pencil.
Step 2: Hot Glue
Trace over your pattern with hot glue. Work quickly in order to get the smoothest finish. If your pattern or text is thicker, you can use several layers of hot glue.
Step 3: Paint
Select 5 paint colors to blend on the canvas. Start at the bottom with the darkest color, and work your way to the top, swapping out brushes with each new paint color.
That’s it! With a little glue, paint, and imagination, you can make some really fun wall decor! I would love to hear what you think, or ideas you have for your own hot glue canvas art… Happy crafting!

hi . i like your style. discovered you through pickmonkey affiliate program.
i admire your ingenuity and i like your website design. it’s encouraging to me as I’m starting out in art.
About the affiliate program in picmonkey. They say 50% commission goes to me (or your) when someone signs up.
So I’m probably going to buy the $99 / year unlimited photos subscription. How does one get paid if people sign up?
Sorry for bugging you. You just seem well organized.
Thank you.

Super cute! I love basically anything sea-themed. =) I’ll be including your tutorial in a hot glue tips + round up later this week on my blog!
Aw, thanks Natasha!!
How can I peel an overlay of dried glue stick ? I’m attempting to make a very large frame like overlay of glue sticks that have dried. What surface can I make the overlay on so that I can peel it off in one piece?
Maybe wax paper or parchment paper?
