Let’s talk about breakfast for a second here. We all know that it’s the most important meal of the day. That definitely rings true in my house… at least for my kids. Mom, on the other hand, could do a better job of making her breakfast a priority.
Since it’s that time of year where we are jump-starting our (hopefully healthy) morning routines, I thought I would share with you how I’m making my breakfast routine easier for the whole family.
I grabbed all of my balanced breakfast supplies at my local Walmart, including Post Cereals Great Grains, Shredded Wheat, and Honey Bunches of Oats Honey Roasted.
How I Make Freezer Smoothie Packs
For these Freezer Smoothie Packs, I used the following grocery items:
- plain yogurt (spooned into an ice cube tray and frozen the night before)
- mango
- pineapple
- strawberries
- bananas
- spinach
With these ingredients, I made three different smoothie flavor combinations that will please the whole family: Tropical, Strawberry Banana, and (Mom’s) Green Smoothie.
Gather and wash all of your produce.
Cut the fruit into small, bit-sized cubes. This way they are easier to blend after they have been frozen.
Place your cut produce along with two yogurt cubes into pre-labeled freezer bags. Seal well and freeze.
Strawberry Banana Contains:
- strawberry, banana, and yogurt
Tropical Smoothie Contains:
- strawberry, banana, mango, pineapple, and yogurt
Mom’s Green Smoothie Contains:
- strawberry, banana, mango, pineapple, baby spinach, and yogurt
When it’s time for breakfast, pour the contents of your smoothie pack into the blender. Add liquid (either water or juice) and blend until smooth.
Smoothie freezer packs paired with Post breakfast cereals are the perfect morning combination to please everyone. With all of the delicious better-for-you smoothie and cereal options, you’re bound to find a favorite for everyone in the family – without feeling like a short-order cook who spends all morning in the kitchen!
I paired my green smoothie with a bowl of Great Grains cereal for a tasty breakfast! Post cereals contain fiber that prepares your body for the day and keeps you full until lunch (as well as 12 vitamins and minerals), and the smoothie helps you get a start on those servings of fruits and veggies for the day. It’s a win/win!
