Why I love this craft

If you’re a book lover or you just enjoy crafting with nature, you’re going to love this project! Today I’m sharing how to make DIY pressed flower bookmarks using cardstock, packing tape, and a few basic craft supplies.
This is a simple project that’s perfect for beginners (and even kids, with supervision). My daughter and I pressed flowers together for the very first time while making these bookmarks, and even though the colors faded a little over time, the final result was still gorgeous.

Yield: 3 bookmarks

1Make beautiful DIY pressed flower bookmarks using cardstock, packing tape, and real flowers! This easy craft is perfect for kids, teens, and book lovers.

Materials

  • Fresh flowers, the smaller the better (pressed and dried)
  • Cardstock (colored or patterned – I used purple, green, and brown)
  • Clear packing tape
  • Double-sided tape
  • Twine, yarn, or ribbon (for tassels)

Tools

  • Iron and paper towels (for pressing flowers)
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Cutting mat
  • Craft knife or pen blade
  • Hole punch
  • Smoothing tool or credit card (to remove air bubbles)
  • Scissors

Instructions

    1. Watch the video tutorial. Follow along with the video tutorial for a step-by-step walkthrough of how to make your own DIY pressed flower bookmarks.
    2. Press Your Flowers. Pick some small, flat flowers. To press them quickly, sandwich the flowers between two paper towels and gently press with a warm iron. (If you want more vibrant colors, press them longer or use a flower press.)
    3. Laminate with Packing Tape. Tear off an 8-inch strip of packing tape and place it sticky side up. Arrange your pressed flowers on the tape. Place a second piece of packing tape over the flowers, sticky side down.
Smooth out air bubbles with a credit card or smoothing tool. Trim off any excess tape so there are no sticky edges. seal pressed flowers between two pieces of packing tape
    4. Cut Your Cardstock Frames. Cut two pieces of cardstock to bookmark size (about 2 to 2.5 inches wide and 6 to 7 inches tall). Use double-sided tape to stick the two cardstock pieces together temporarily so they don’t slide. Draw a rectangle in the center to create a “window.” Using a craft knife and ruler, cut out the rectangle carefully. You’ll now have two matching cardstock frames. trim cardstock
    5. Assemble the Bookmark Sandwich. Place your laminated flowers behind the window of the first cardstock frame. Secure with double-sided tape. Add double-sided tape around the edges of the frame. Place the second cardstock frame on top to finish your bookmark “sandwich.” tape bookmark layers together
    6. Punch a Hole & Add a Tassel. Use a hole punch at the top of your bookmark (it may take extra pressure to get through both cardstock layers and tape). Cut a 10-inch length of twine, yarn, or ribbon. Fold it in half, loop it through the hole, and pull the ends through to create a tassel. hole punch the bookmark tie on a tassel
