Here’s what you’ll need to make this DIY Magnetic Organizer
- cookie sheet form the Dollar Store
- craft paper – I used this wood grain paper, and I LOVE it! I have used it on several projects. Feel free to use any type of decorative paper, wrapping paper, or even fabric that you like!
- scissors
- Mod Podge
- paint brush
- magnets
A Simple Mod Podge Tutorial
Trim your craft paper to the dimensions of the cookie tray, and round the corners. How fun is this wood grain paper?!?!
Using a paintbrush, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the cookie tray, then smooth the decorative paper over the Mod Podge.
Apply another thin layer of Mod Podge on top of the paper, and smooth out any bubbles. I just used my fingers to smooth out the bubbles as best I could. Allow the Mod Podge to dry completely.
How to Use Your DIY Magnetic Organizer
Here are two quick ideas to help you get organized:
1 – Bathroom Makeup Organizing Solution
Use your new organizer tray to organize makeup. Just cut pieces of magnetic tape to apply to your makeup and brushes. I found that the adhesive on the magnetic tape wasn’t quite strong enough, so I reinforced it with hot glue.
Mount the tray to the bathroom wall (or back of the door) using Command Velcro strips for damage-free hanging!
2 – Simple Family Command Center
If you don’t have a dedicated space for a family command center, this is a fantastic option for you. Use Command Velcro strips (again) and hang your little cookie sheet organizer inside a kitchen cabinet door.
I used magnets along with this upcycled magnetic pen holder.
Brilliant idea.
cute idea. might make one for my office, to keep some of my notes I seldom use nearby for the ‘just in case’ times.
Cheers
Great idea. For me I don’t like the new look of the metal with the rustic paper so I will either age the metal for a mercury glass look or use ship lap color chalk paint over a layer of black chalk paint, distress it and seal it. But its such a clever hack. Ty so much for the inspiration. I’d say this also works well with even the big plastic dollar store platters and paint with magnetic paint first then chalk paint over it 🙂 you can also use dollar store plastic baskets and bin and faux finish them to look like the expensive metal versions on home sites. The right paint and you can upcycle anything lol.
