It’s no secret that I love, love, LOVE peel-and-stick wallpaper. It instantly changes any space, without major hassle or expense. Plus, when you’re ready for a change, you just peel it away. It’s a fantastic decorating tool for homeowners and renters alike.
After perfecting my wallpaper application technique installing a wallpaper subway tile backsplash in our previous rental, I felt confident filling a complete wall for my next project. I bought this removable wallpaper online and used it to update my new home office/craft room. In about an hour, this wall got a new look.
Faux Shiplap Project Ideas
Keep in mind that you can upscale any space in your home with a faux shiplap look. Not to mention, you can get pretty creative with it. Do you have built in shelving on a wall? Consider placing some in the open areas to give it a shiplap background look.
Accent a wall in your kitchen (or dining room like I did) or go for a full wall (or two) in your child’s room. This will create instant relaxation, warmth and coziness. Give your fireplace or staircase area an instant farmhouse look with faux shiplap, or try it on the ceiling for a really unique look.
Plus, you may be shocked to know that you don’t need many supplies or fancy tools at all!
Supplies Needed
- peel-and-stick, removable wall and surface covering
- a level
- cutting-edge razor
- smoothing spatula
My Faux Shiplap Wall Update
Here’s a little time-lapse video of the whole transformation:
- Start at the furthermost side of your wall and align the end of the wallpaper with the corner edge of where the ceiling meets the wall.
- Use a level to make sure the wallpaper is straight.
- As you apply the paper, use a smoothing spatula every so often to smooth out air bubbles and help the paper adhere.
- When you get to the crease where the wall meets the baseboard, use a straight-edge razor to cut off the excess wallpaper.
***Tip: The wallpaper can easily peel off for readjustment but try not to do it too much so the sticky part doesn’t wear off.
The product description online shows how many square feet a roll will cover, but for reference, I used three rolls on this wall.
More Faux Shiplap Crafts
- I decided to add character to my dining room by applying a half wall of faux shiplap. It turned out super cute.
