Hello all! First, let me apologize for my lack of posting lately. We moved a little less than a month ago, and well, you know the drill…
Despite what you have seen on the menu at Starbucks, it IS still Summer! PSL (pumpkin spice latte) already… really!?!? And don’t get me started on the Christmas decorations that have popped up. Talk about serious holiday creep!
Anywho. I started this project pre-move, when it really did feel like summer. So that obviously influenced my choice in colors. Who doesn’t love coral & navy?!? I wanted to get some canvas bags for summer school books or quick trips with the twins, but wanted to paint them myself.
Out came the masking tape, fabric paint, brushes, and my silhouette cutter. I don’t have a fancy cutter that can make stencils, so I just cut each letter individually and them pieced together a stencil. For a simple project like this, I think the method works pretty well.
Also, the craft store I went to did not have coral fabric paint. If this happens to you, don’t freak out. Just buy pink and orange paint. Then mix pink and orange in a ratio of roughly 3:1. It really doesn’t take much orange paint at all.
I made a second bag for my mom. She requested I painted the word “MINE” on hers. That’s her sense of humor for you! I also think this would make a great back-to-school craft. I have heard many preschools and elementary schools don’t allow backpacks, only totes. Good thing I won’t be dealing with that for a few more years! I just couldn’t imagine sending my babies off to school!
Soooo cute! Will you make one for me, and I’ll pick it up in October??
Maybe navy stripes? You can surprise me with what it says. Or, maybe I should just bite the bullet & make my own, one for every quilting project I have going on right now…..
It’s totally still Summer, and coral and navy are so pretty together!
I love that your mom wanted hers to say “mine”.
