A girlfriend introduced me to oreo truffles, aka “crack balls” a couple of years ago. Shout-out time: Thanks Danielle! Since then, I have seen all sorts of flavored oreos in the store, just waiting to be tinkered with. I was really excited as I went to the store to buy peppermint oreos.
Imagine my disappointment when I found good old mint oreos. Mint. Mint? Maybe it all stems from my overall dislike for mint chocolate chip ice cream… or the knot in my stomach that tightens when I see a mint green/brown color combo. I imagined chewing a stick of green spearmint gum with an oreo cookie. Or worse. Brushing your teeth with mint toothpaste and topping it off with an oreo. No, thank you. I wanted peppermint. Plan B: head over to the baking aisle for peppermint extract.
I followed the exact same steps as last time (see here) with three exceptions:
- I beat 1 tsp. of peppermint extract into the cream cheese before adding to the crushed oreos.
- I used white almond bark instead of white chocolate chips for dipping.
- I drizzled the tops of the truffles with melted red candy melts instead of chocolate chips.
That’s it! I knocked these out in under a half-hour before work one morning. Now, those are my kind of recipes! Hopefully someone at work will help me eat these peppermint oreo truffles, because nothing good can come from me eating them all by myself, except maybe sheer happiness and a sugar coma.
What oreo flavor would you like to see in a truffle?
